My 3dfx Voodoo 5500 search is finally over. I found one on a forum for $75 shipped, which is fair I think. AGP version though.

Don't forget to buy a 3dfx sticker for your case! 2FPS extra, fact!

I heard you get better performance if you take the heatsinks off and replace them with official 3dfx stickers.

I'm debating making a thread asking people what their experience with the 5500 has been in terms of reliability. I can't tell if they seem fragile or it's just in my mind. I want to use it, but if they have some unusually short lifespan I'll only bring it out on the holidays.

Yes, it's already caused me to write sentences at a 3st grade level: "I found an one for on a forum for" and I don't even have the card yet.

You got your facts wrong there, just a little bit. This is actually what happens. People should be warned of the dangers of doing this.

This arrived today. I nabbed it off shopgoodwill.com for about $15 shipped. I was the only bidder. Comes with everything: Vortex 2 card, digital out card, cables, manual, and CD-ROM. Can't wait to experience some quadraphonic A3D goodness!

Last weekend there was a electronics fair near my hometown - among other things, I bought for € 15 a HP Jornada 728, complete with cradle, a nice device with Windows CE 3.0, a 200mhz ARM processor, 64mb of RAM (the model 720 had half). He was in good condition, I gave it a clean, replaced the CR2302 battery and found that is fully functional, complete with a main battery still in good condition after 13 years (from 2002):

After some investigation, I decided to install a version of Linux that could improve and expand the use of this handheld / tablet, making it a small fully functional PC: I opted for the old project JLime Linux, which I proceeded to install in a new 2GB CF - unfortunately WinCE remains in ROM, and the only way to do this is to initialize Linux from WinCE with a special bootloader, Linexec, on the first DOS boot partition of CF - the result is very nice and functional, although I would have preferred to have ONLY Linux through a flashrom... with my old HP PCMCIA Wireless card, the WL110, I am connected to the external network via provisional open hotspot from my cell phone:

Intel D815EEA2 Motherboard. 16 US Dollars. (Including shipping)

d815.jpg

I will use that PIII-933 that I have in a Compaq Deskpro EN, wich is an AGP-Less machine.
Or search for a Tualatin at 1.2ghz as the manual states that it can use such CPU.
And the Intel have a universal AGP slot. Perfect for my Voodoo3-3500 Compaq model.
The soundcard is going to be the SB-Live and I have loads of PC-133 ram and a couple of good HDD's
Missing a case, and yet another PSU.

I remember those topless memory modules. They where on the low-end of the memory you could buy. I had a few of those that just had a blob of black goo on top of the IC. Really crappy memory

Gold plated (you don't have to clean oxidation over time) 🤣
Work like a charm at the tightest/fastest settings and are mostly 60 NS ones, plus they don't run hot because of the "black goo" that let the air flow between each sticks (advantage of not being tall DIP's that touch the back of the next stick).
If all crappy memory could be like this 😵

Had 8 modules (8mb total) installed in the 486dx2-66 that I had back in 95.
They never gave me any instability issues.

The one of them is refurbrished, the other one came free with box and manual when I told my friend I just bought the first one 😁. I guess I know what my phone will be for a few years in the future 😀

_Nice_.My 99 cel died a couple years back and I replaced it with the last of the basic Nokia candybars. When it goes I can only hope to find some refurb as nice as those.

Should have gone with the 3330 for that sweet WAP.

Bought lots of stuff recently. All yet to arrive

  • 3m and 2m flat HDMI cables in colours to make it easier when capturing with cable mess
  • Dual PSU adapter. Allows using two Power supplies to spread the load.
  • Gigabyte GTX 285
  • Diamond Viper V770
  • Fischer plastic box with 12 compartments. For sorting screws, jumpers...
  • 4x 55cm CD Audio cables. Always seem to run low on them or too short
  • Coloured buttons for a really cool project I got lined up
  • 3x 256MB CL2 PC133 SDRAM from Micron
  • 2x Arctic Cooling Copper Lite. They have arrived. Really good Socket A cooler
  • Athlon XP 3000+ and 3200+. Took 4 weeks to arrive. But working great

That should keep me busy for a while 😀

Please show me your dual power supply adapter thing... I'm interested a lot in that.

When I looked for it, I expected something really complicated, mini nuclear reactor style. But turns out it's just a little gadget 🤣
