I've been occasionally looking at eBay for a Socket 4 setup for a long time. They aren't out there in huge volume. I stumbled on an auction last week and dropped in a $1 bid and won! Apparently it is an Intel "Batman" Classic/PCI Pentium mobo with the 430LX Mercury chipset.

I wonder if it works or if I've tossed $8 ($1 + shipping) to the wind!? How very excited I am to play with a 60/66 Mhz Pentium.... or something.... 😉 Maybe I'll post a decent photo once its glory arrives!!!! 3 PCI slots...pffft.

BTW, I would really like an Intel Advanced/EV or Advanced/AS Socket 5 mobo. An EV with the video and audio would be particularly neato to me. For some reason or another...

That 5volt Pentium 1 will save you some heating costs during the coming autumn I guess, hehe

Nice find, what do you plan using it for?

Yeah people really did go nuts over the heat they put out. Something tells me that those people couldn't foresee the 65-150W CPUs of today, however.

I'll load up Win95 and play some games, of course. Nothing long term or specific really. I've never touched a Socket 4 sys before so that's the big draw.

I'll be you'll throw in a Voodoo 1 card also, right? 😉

Nice, I like it. I've never seen a 430LX board before. I've been running a POD133 in my socket4 motherboard for a while because it's too hard to find a P66 without the fdiv at a decent price.

yeah it's a Dell!

Dell and Gateway are great sources of Intel OEM boards. I found some Intel Advanced/EV "Endeavor" boards on ebay now too, but no audio. Just S3 Trio64 video. Endeavor is interesting to me because I had a friend with one back when they were new.

The audio that would normally be on these boards was a Creative Vibra16 chip. That combined with the S3 Trio would make a nice all-in-one DOS game mobo. 😉 The loss of the onboard audio is hardly a big one though as it has plenty of ISA slots for better stuff anyway.

Well, it got here a few weeks ago now, but I haven't messed with it at all. I just can't get excited about a Pentium that would be slower than a AMD 5x86 that I could build. 😉
