Hum ... I think what probably happens is that for the 9500A selling nowadays (2013) they've discarded the much in disuse s478 gear. I'd look then for a second hand ~2007 vintage one. Or buy a new one and McGiver the mount 😎 .

yea, the original came out in the late s478/462 era. As for the P4 version, all you need is an aluminum bar between the posts on the stock plastic mounting posts. I can provide pictures if need be. As for S464/A you need the 4 mounting holes on the motherboard and zalman's adapters. These adapters will let you put just about any heatsink onto 478/462.

I'm using a Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu on a 478 Prescott 3.2, it stays in low 60's under full load, idles in low 40's @ 20c room temperature, but does have one down side, dust collection, it's a really efficient vacuum cleaner!! See pic!
Overclocking is not an option on this crappy board, Asus P4R-800-VM ATi IGP chipset), nothing in BIOS whatsoever, it's also a picky git about RAM, and with only 2 slots this a pain. So for now only 512mb.

I have almost the same exact cooler, sale page said it worked on 478, when I got it box said otherwise. I wound up using it on some phenoms instead.

I wonder what the temps would have been if they hadn't goofed up and polished the base.

Very good but sadly missed out and it like all the rest of the really good 478 coolers it is hard to find. Don't want to bother with the CNPS7000/7700 series coolers although I used to have a bunch of them.
