Hiya!!!

In the last days I am searching for a dos-only hex editor. The best I found so far is Norton DiskEdit , it has nice menus, mouse support etc... BUT it cannot cut bytes. Yep, no CUT. So getting a 10byte file down to 5 is not possible. (unless this feature is so well-hidden I cannot find it 🙄 )
So anyone can recommend me another hex editor?
Any help is greatly appreciated! 😁

Dunno about a 'cut' feature, but this is the freeware DOS hex editor that I've used since 1994 (FileEdit binary file editor v1.65 - FED) -> http://www.simtel.net/product/view/id/41253 😀

thought that there was a free version of hiew.
at least that is what I use to hex edit files under dos.
it can truncate files as well

Cool, I'll have to try it too.

I always just used diskedit too... not having cut is annoying.

For small files I used debug a lot too, but after NOT doing anything like that for years, and now being spoiled by GUIs, I find debug completely insane to try to use.

I've always used XVI32:

I don't really know anything about hex, but I've had a lot of luck with this one. I've even used it to change a CPU ID check in "Virtual ON" which demanded that You have a CPU with the "Genuine Intel" ID. (I was trying to run the game on a P4, which does not have the Genuine Intel ID)

Open WIIIIIIIIIIIDE for chunky!!
