This is an ATI Radeon "3D Prophet FDX" 8500 LE. The heatsink blocks 2 of the PCI slots. Nice.

that is a user installed heatsink, I recognise it - it is a 3rd party chipset one ... very poor choise of the previous owner 🙁

Yeah, that heatsink on the 8500 is a Zalman chipset cooler. I've bought one before. I think that is adequate to passively cool a Radeon 8500 GPU. They don't put out that much heat.

The Voodoo5 photo is just stupid. That is more than simple overkill there. VSA-100 is probably a ~10W chip.

I also have one of those Zalman coolers attached to my old Matrox G400 Max. I think it does a fine job at keeping it cool, better than the tiny stock cooler with the loud fan 😀

Yep its zalman chipset cooler, been using it on mine ABit NF7-S mobo some years back.
