I also have a board that has no cable and it also doesn't get detected.
Any chance to get the pinout of the cable?

I've got one of these cards on the way... One of the few MPU-401 clones I didn't already have. I'll post the pinout once it arrives

Has been a while...
Did the card arrive? Is it working?

I completely forgot about this.

Here is the pinout:

DB-25 male is solder side

Pinout:
First number is the DB-25 pin number.

RCA (Metronome Out):
12 - RCA center
16 - RCA ground

Red Din-5 (MIDI OUT)
1 - Din pin 5
2 - Din pin 4
14 - ground (Din pin 2)

Black Din-5 (MIDI IN)
3 - Din pin 5
4 - Din pin 4
15 - ground (Din pin 2)

DB-25 other
8-9 shorted
10-11 shorted

The manual says that the computer will not detect the card unless the cable is plugged in. I am guessing this is what the 8-9 and 10-11 pin shorts do.
You are also not supposed to plug or unplug the DB-25 connector while the computer is on.

Still have the "CMS-401-II" edition of that card.
Uploaded a scan of my manual here:
Re: Intelligent mode MPU-401 and how it's utilised.

Not sure any more about the similarites between that an the original model, but maybe it'll help somehow.

I like jumpers.

I actually have two different versions of the CMS-401 now. One has no jumpers so the base address cannot be set. The other has jumpers.

I'll have to scan the documentation that I have though there really isn't that much to it.
