I was trying to record the output from my Sound Blaster 1.5 (the Game Blaster/CMS output actually) with my PC using a stereo audio cable, directly from the card to my modern PC's line in. Works fine recording Sound Blaster and AdLib. The problem is that when I do that with the Game Blaster/CMS, there is a huge loss in fidelity, and I have no idea why.

See in my video to hear what I'm talking about (from the 26:33 mark onward)

The playback through the line-in port on my Windows PC sounds fine, but recording from that same line and playing it back sounds like garbage. It's tinny, missing most of the bass, and generally sounds like junk. It's almost a different octave, it's just bizarre. Tried another cable, tried another line-in port, tried recording at differing sample rates (22k all the way up to 192k), nothing seems to work. I use Adobe Audition 3 to record.

Any ideas? I should probably try recording on another PC, but I don't have any newer ones that are functional right now. This one has me stumped.

What sound card do you have in your windows PC? It could be that the CMS has a high DC offset which your sound card is trying to remove or something. When you play a sine or square wave on the CMS, does it look like that in adobe audition?

Also have you tried using other programs, like Cool Edit Pro or 'good old' sndrec32?

Thanks, I got the recording problem fixed! It turns out it was the program I was using. I have no idea why, as all the settings seem to check out, but once I switched over to Audacity instead of Audition, it recorded both channels correctly and now I have the proper bass and everything. Thanks for the tips!
