Actually, none of my older boards did need recapping as of now. Only this one did.

I've seen bursting caps on Abit BF6 and BX133. I think most 1999-2002 Abit boards will have questionable caps. Also had a Shuttle AK31A KT266A board with bursting caps. And a DFI K8T800 board... Even if they aren't bursting, you should check the brand of them against the badcaps.net list because they could be bad.

But if the board is working ok, who cares really.

Brace yourself. It is far worse! We talk KT133A. They just started trying!

Oh goody, 686B southbridge. But KT133A is still superior to their Super 7 efforts when it comes to AGP.

I am using an ISA card.

PCI affects ISA. If you have problems with an ISA sound card, check for Delayed Transaction and Passive Release settings in the BIOS and experiment.

You may want to try the PCI Latency patch regardless because it can dramatically improve PCI performance in general (helping all PCI devices).

I use my Voodoo5 almost exclusively with old Glide games and run 4X FSAA. In this case, the V5 is clearly the bottleneck. I typically use it with my 815EP + PIII 1400 setup.

When I first powered up that Epox KT133A Board, instantly three caps blew loudly and a lot of smoke came up. While I grabbed for the power switch, the bios post appeared on the screen and the system startet. Thats how evil that chipset is!

I actually found that out by trying a few years ago because a SB16 (or 32) wouldn't allow win98se to start.

I am more and more inclined to go the intel route. I only need to figure out a way to get a usb2 card running on the BX board.

Edit: I just ran a few benchies, here is the result:

Hmm, I'd love to see a graph like that for 3DMark 2001se build 330.

Correct. I've run 3DMark2001se many times with my Voodoo5.
Reference point; I got about 2550 points with my P4 2,26GHz, about the same as with an Athlon XP 2000+.

What is the verdict on 89 MHz AGP clock vor a V5 5500? I could run my BX board with 133MHz fsb then.
I googled, but I found very little information on it.

The card will run, but will it die soon?

My V5 usually locks up when starting 3D games when the AGP is clocked that high.

It could be caused by my Abit BF6 though. It doesn't like 133 FSB much even with just PCI cards.

OP here with a somewhat related note.
I spotted some kind of Voodoo (2?) card today in a market. I believe the model number was ct6670. It was copyrighted by Creative in 1998.
This isn't exactly what I am looking for, but it would be nice to have it in my collection nonetheless. What's a reasonable price to pay for it?
No cables were included, not even the external one that connects to the 2D card. Can I find a suitable cable elsewhere?

I guess I am more lucky then. I could run 3DMark2000 at FSB 150 with AGP at 100 MHz, and the card didn't crap out. I got 5200 points that way.

However, I posted in this thread initially due to the discussion "is a P3 enough muscle for a Voodoo5?", and I am at the moment inclined to say it isn't. Why is that?

I have been testing European Air War (EAW) and Gunship! and found the frame rate would go down to about 15 frames at 1600x1200 when lots and lots of planes were near. This looks like it is a GPU problem. So I boosted the performance of the gpu by swapping it for a Geforce 4200ti. The normal frame rate went up from 30 to 60 (vsync forces an integer divider of 60, ie 60, 30, 20, 15, 12, 10 etc.), but the low rate stayed pretty well where it was.

I will cross check this on the Athlon with 2000 MHz.

CT6670 is an 8mb card. I'd pass on it. You should be looking at 12mb cards with Voodoo2.

Are you sure? It's listed as 12MB here.

The way to tell is look at both side of the board, if there is 12 memory chip on each side of the board then it 12MB board if not then it a 8MB board

A bit more clearly described; 8MiB boards have 4 memorychips on the backside while 12MiB boards have 12 or 0 memorychips on the backside.

I have now cross-checked and indeed, the frame rates go up when 2000 MHz are flying the plane. The game is from 1998, the min. requirements were a P 133 and a voodoo1 for 3D. Still, even an Athlon XP 2600+ with a Geforce 4200ti will not deliver 60fps throughout.

I guess this does favor the Athlon XP vs the Pentium 3.
