Just a clarification, I mean for DOS, not Windows.

Cheers,
Rita Graça.

My DOS machine: MS-DOS 6.22, Pentium MMX 200MHz, 64MB RAM, AWE64 Gold, 4GB HD, Philips 19" CRT, 3"1/2 Floppy, CDROM, Parallel ZIP, ThrustMaster FLCS+TQL+Elite.

Does anyone know if the first-generation Microsoft SideWinder gamepad works under DOS?

Cheers,
Rita Graça.

If recall rigth dos only allow for 4 buttons

Gravis Gamepad Pro had GrIP which expanded support to 10 though few games supported it

Was the Xterminator (or other late Gravis gameport pads) compatible with GrIP too, or just the pro?

Quickshot Command Pad (6-Button Pad):

It's my favourite, not out of choice, but through accessibility : I happen to get only this with my "pocket money" those days. And liked it from the start.

Later when I got my Super Street Fighter II Turbo - DOS CD game, I remember all buttons were used properly. I remember this because, I assigned each button like the Sega Genesis' default button configuration for SF2:SCE (Special Champon Edition), i.e. A=LP, B=MP, X=HP, C=LK, D=MK, Y=HK (where P=Punch, K=Kick, L,M,H=Low,Mid,High respectively).

I also remember all buttons were working in Mortal Kombat 3 - Dos CD game.

Can either choose 6-Button mode or 4 + 2 Turbo/Auto-Fire button mode.

That one seems pretty cool!

Does it need any drivers to work under DOS?

Cheers,
Rita Graça.

Looks nice! I saw your post and searched for that on ebay, and found one. It's the same but in black color. It's listed as seller refurbished, but untested. I Bought it for 3 GBP... I hope it works.... 😀
