I found this awesome little bugger at a thrift store. It's branded only "CMS". I think having a 5.25" drive external would be ideal since I so rarely ever need to use it.

Is there a generic driver for something like this?

Most likely it is a peripheral to some laptop. Some laptops did not have internal floppy drive, so you could switch the parallel port signals in BIOS to floppy drive signals.

So my guess is, your floppy drive will not work in a regular parallel port.

Ah yes the mythical external 5.25 floppy. It really doesnt exist outside hardware for specific machines as far as I know. I would love to get a usb interface and enclosure for a 5.25" drive but I dont think our enthusiast market is big enough to ever see it happen.
