dunno how many have seen this, but on some computers(mostly modern high frequency/high fsb computers), 3dmark2000 would simply be unable to load and the cpu usage sticks at 100% forever until you terminate the process(on multi-core cpus it uses only one core at 100%). 3dmark01 doesn't have this problem.

i've experienced this on several lga775 computers and i knew it can be solved by running in "win98 compatible mode", on some computers lowering cpu fsb would also fix it, so i thought it was because that 3dmark2000 can't correctly detect cpu speed.

however, when i tested a winchip yesterday, the same problem occured. at first i thought this cpu was just slow as hell that it would take a long time to load, but after minutes the system is still unresponsive, and cpu load is fixed at 100%, so i knew i have run into the same problem. after i terminated the process and set it to win98 compatible mode, it loaded in a few seconds!

now, does anyone know whats the true reason behind this problem?

It looks like this app needs the EmulateSlowCPU ACT fix...

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

where can i find info on that thing?
and as i said, i thought it was caused by cpus being too fast, but it just took place on an winchip-200!

Using compatibility mode for Windows 95 or 98 solves these issues for me.

I think it is mostly dual core CPUs that triggers the 3Dmark 2000 freeze with 100% CPU load bug under Windows 2000/XP.

Main PC: Dual Xeon X5690@4.6ghz, Evga - SR-2, 48gb memory, Intel X25-M g2 SSD and a Nvidia GTX 980 ti.
Retro PC #3: K6-2 450@500mhz, PC-Chips m577, 256mb sdram, AWE64 and a Voodoo Banshee.
