For the first time since the year 2000 I going to build a Intel skt 370 Coppermine machine, wish me luck!

Here are the parts I have so far:
This case, and optical drives and floppy drive:
file.php?mode=view&id=14426&sid=67956dd818e73e8000d06ce29058e107
Really solid and well made and from about the right age I think give or take a year or two.

Motherboard will be an ASUS CUV4X, this has Via apollo pro chipset with AGP pro slot.
2 CPU's for this build are available Pentium III 733mhz and Celeron 600mhz.
512mb of PC133 RAM.
Seagate U series 5 20GB IDE HD(Dec 2000).
choice of 3 AGP video cards,ATi Rage XL, Diamond fire gl 1000(Permedia 2) & S3 Trio3D2X.
sounblaster PCi.
3COM PCi network card.
Os will be Win98SE.
Progress and benchmarks will be added over the next few days 😀

I have that exact same case. By any chance, would you know what the make/model are? The power button on mine is missing. I inherited the machine from a friend's dad but was going to replace the case. It's such a nice case though.

Wish I could help, mine has no identification marks whatsoever. I believe it is from between 2000-2002 as mine had a dead Asus P4B board installed clearly by the original builder when i found it.

OK I'm all built up and running, currently with the Celeron CPU as the P3 hasn't arrived yet. Had to install XP as my 98SE disk has gone walkabouts, I know it is here someplace, last place you look huh? Rage XL works under XP but the drivers seem rubbish, Unreal is missing most textures and 3Dmark2001 the same, The S3 Trio3D/2X i finally found some XP drivers, but neither Unreal or 3dmark will even start in D3D mode(unable to initialise 3D device). Haven't had time to try the diamond Permedia 2 yet but drivers seem to be the problem for that one too under XP, i.e i can't find any.
For interest, the RAGE XL did complete 3Dmark2001 with a score of 258!!
I gonna stick in a Geforce 2MX400 for now, until i can get the win 98SE installed.
Will post picks and benchmark scores later on.

Best,
Chris

Chris

I don't think the missing textures it's becouse of drivers, more like becouse both Rage XL and S3trio3D are weak 3d cards and don't support a lot of 3d functions.

It clearly should run 3Dmark2001 on S3TRIO3D/2X, at least under 98 as this video demonstrates.
Also seems the Rage XL should be a lot better than what i got judging by the pics here at vintage3d(what an awesome site!) http://vintage3d.org/rage3.php#sthash.nw2EIPLF.dpbs I get no floor textures at all.

I have got a Geforce 2mx400 fitted as of now, It runs Unreal Gold beautifully, but I do want to experiment with these old first gen 3D cards, I find them of interest. Hopefully a shift to windows 98SE will be of benefit.

Best regards,
Chris

3dmark2001 score with the Celeron 600.
file.php?mode=view&id=14397&sid=8c940a15213b64c7050712c21bcf6234
And here is score with the Pentium III 733 that arrived today 😀
also some PiFast results to 1million.
Celeron 600 :4m.28s.977ms.
PIII 733 :2m.37s.835ms.
The Pentium 3 sure makes a difference with this type of number crunching!

Found my Windows 98 install disk and have installed that along with all drivers, can now run the S3 Trio3D/2x with 3Dmark2001, the score was 72............
Permedia 2 will not run 3Dmark2001 bot happily ran final reality, it in fact did very well.
I splashed out a little this morning on eBay and have bought a 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500, always wanted one when they were new and now i finally have a machine i can use it with. Could someone recommend to me the best drivers for this for both 98 and XP?

Both my 3DFX Voodoo cards arrived in the post today, Voodoo 3 2000 AGP & Voodoo 5 5500 AGP. Decided to start off with the 3.

Here's my 3Dmark2001 score:
file.php?mode=view&id=14425&sid=90102a1fba00589a760d6458aeb1309b

Unreal Gold and serious Sam 1& 2 are all running beautifully on this card, the Amiga sport drivers for XP work very well. Unreal particularly looks better on the 3DFX than on the GF2MX I was using previously. Going to enjoy the Voodoo 3 for a few days before i try out the 5 5500, after all I've waited 14 years already a few more days won't hurt 😉

Had a good bit of game play on the machine over the weekend, it's running like a swiss watch 😀 Been playing Driver under glide and Heavy Metal FAKK2, both really good games and ones i missed first time around. Having a load of fun!
Still not tried the Voodoo 5 5500 been having too much fun with the Voodoo 3 so that will be an adventure for another day.

Best,
Chris

Funny I have exactly the same components as you, ASUS CUV4X, Voodoo 2000 AGP (how come you have an AGP 1.5v version? mine is 3.3v and incompatible with this mobo, have to run it on a P2 333 Mhz board. Using a ATI Radeon 7500 because I had problems with an FX 5200 with this mobo) and Pentium 3 550 OC to 837 Mhz with 384 MB of RAM.
I dont like this system because when I tried with an SB Live and Audigy I had lots of problems with EAX games (cracking noises and sounds cutting off among others) while in other systems with the same cards drivers and OS EAX was fine.
So I am going to give it away to someone unless I can find an A3D 2.0 capable soundcard (seems nearly impossible to find one nowadays) that runs without these problems and get rid of the useless buggy ATI crap and get an Nvidia that gives no problems or a 3dfx AGP 1.5v card (do these even exist???).
Also I have the same NIC as you, 3com 3c905 and sometimes I loose inet/LAN connection for no reason and have to restart PC.

My board is AGP-PRO 3.3v socket, mahap you have a different revision of the board? I have had no problems with either the soundblaster or the network. just installed the 3DFX Voodoo5 5500, it's working great. I don't have a FX5200, but have run a Geforce 2MX 400 with no issues at all.

BSA Starfire, great rig! I vote for more pictures!

valencio, I actually have two A3D 2.0 cards and 3 A3D cards total. They do not seem uncommon to me at all.

Here's the 2 hard drives i'm using with this rig, both seagate 20gig, the U5 is from 2000, the U6 is from 2001, I wanted to keep in the right era and like the melodic twittering noise these drives make, both sound very different from each other, the U6 being almost silent.
