How can one mount cooler to socket with broken tabs?

busted320.jpg

The picture above is not the worst case as Socket A coolers with 3-hole clips can be used here. How to deal with sockets like this?

Using thermally conductive adhesive is not desirable.

I think of Z-shaped clips

Will try it soon.

Any other ideas?

Z-clips require mounting grommets on the motherboard to attach, and I don't think they're robust enough for the weight of a larger CPU heatsink. You might be able to get away with 1 of 2 clips on one side, but I'm not entirely certain of that; is it infeasible to get another motherboard?

You can use furniture glue. If I have no mounting devices to attach a fan with, I apply a layer of thermal paste, clean it away it from the corners of the chip and add drops of glue on the clean spots.

If we are talking of vertical load, I'd be careful and apply glue to the whole upper edge of the chip, not just the corners.
