So, I had been looking around for floppy disks for a while, waiting for a "reasonable" offer to show up locally (locally in Australian terms means to me, in the country). The other day I found an offer on eBay. $55 AUD + shipping for a pack of 10, brand new. A bit pricey but one can't be to picky and since these would be the last floppy disks I would ever buy and throwing in a xmas present for myself, why not...? I ordered 2 packs.

Today I go to the post office to pick up the order and this woman brings out 2 boxes taped together that looks waaaaaay too large to be just 2 boxes of 10 floppy disks. long story short, turns out what I bought was 10 packs of 10 disk, twice, so 200 disks in total. 😀

I'm not complaining and I definitely now have enough floppy disks to last me the rest of my life.

Just fried my dreamblaster S2 daughterboard 🙁 Connected it wrong way to cable and bam, total silence on output. Luckily i cant see no burn traces on board. Is it repairable?

It always bothered me that these connectors weren't keyed for orientation. I believe I've reversed a daughterboard once to no ill effect, but I might have been lucky.

Could this kind of mistake be averted with a diode?

Sounds like an opportunity to sell the second box and make enough cash to cover the cost of both, at least that's what i would be doing. (As you said finding them locally can be a bit difficult!)

No one needs 200 floppy disks, so .. why not share the love a bit and cover your costs !

Looking at the price Im guessing these are not 1.44Mb Disks since you can get them pretty cheap here.

Well, I desoldered the presumably dead MOSFET, and a simple diode test with a DMM passed successfully. Going to replace it anyway. Now to find a 15N03 or substitute...

Started work on my PPro 440FX(Apollo) rig, LPX power supply decided to not play nice (with magic smoke), so had to hack a ATX->AT psu to supply the extra 3.3v header.
Everything plugged in and nothing, the Post Card says nothing except the power rails look okay, it looks like the reset line isn't functioning correctly. Could be something to worth the power supply hack i guess but doesn't feel like it.
So put that on hold until have enough time to scope things and see if there is an easy fix.

Remembered I had a Cyrix Super Socket 7 I've not touched yet, so gave that a go.
Its a Delhi-III board, very cost reduced but worked first time with ATX power.
The Cyrix is a MII-300 (233Mhz), the board has built in AGP ATI Rage IIC with 4MB, a CS4325 and takes EDO or SDRAM dimms.

Apparently the CD4235 has broken FM, so stuck in a ALS100 board with a Dreamblaster S2, 96MB 100Mhz SDRAM, 10GB PATA drive, CD-ROM of some kind and a PCI network card.

Its booting Win95 and Win98. Tomorrow I'll do a proper install and finish a few things off.

Nah. 🤣. They aren't. They are 1.44 MB Memorex disks from 1993. Each disk has its own individual plastic wrapper! Tested one box of 10, doing an unconditional format on each disk. They all worked.

One guy at work is taking the second box (100 disks) off my hands.

Today I got to nearest post office to pick up 4 of 8x32K and 1 of 1x32K static RAM chips.
And I've just installed them into my 386DX-40 board and got 20% performance boost (from 51.5 to 62.4 points in Landmark).
Not as cool as hex-editing BIOS images to fix Y2K problem in 2023 but also one step closer to perfection. 😀

Was testing this Legend QDI socket 462 motherboard with AMD Duron CPU. The capacitors need replacement, but I wanted to see if she boots, so it least I would know she is worth saving. She does boot, but after one minute of being turned on, one of the capacitors popped right in front of me. I bet these capacitors are the cheapest they could find those days.

I have a ibm t42p id like to tripple boot windows 98, xp and Haiku on. XP does not like other operating systems so I'm currently trying the grub boot loader...

Edit: i don't know much about bootloaders but It seems like the NT bootloader had installed on my windows 98 partition but the boot.ini was referring to the wrong partition for the xp installation. :-p

My uncle had a Athlon based point of sale system back in the day for his restaurant and it had a modem in the AMR slot for faxing and credit card transactions. It was the one and only time I've seen a slot populated let alone a actually used.
