Despite?

My main machine is a C2Q with 3GB of usable RAM

I agree, my main PC is a Core 2 Duo E8400 with 8GB RAM. It's running Windows 7 and Linux Fedora 21 and is more than fast enough to run most modern games and do anything you'd like on the interwebz.

Check me out at Transcendental Airwaves on Youtube! Fast-food sucks!

What kind of errors? I always thought it was a cool tune... I'll have to listen to it again in detail.

Quickly put together something to test two Diamond Viper V770 TNT2 cards. Liking the driver with the Diamond graphics, pretty neat. Not sure how the driver version fits in, any ideas what year this is from, or if it's an early or late driver?

Haven't played anything or benchmarked anything yet. But eager to see what the card is like 😀

Figuring out some issues with XP update. According to the internet if you install SP3 before IE8 it corrupts some registry files and you can not access MS update. Fun stuff!

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

There's not much point anyway, microsoft doesn't issue new updates for XP anymore anyway.

Tell that to the XP computer in the lunch room at my work so it stops wasting time on downloading and installing updates 😉.

Microsoft is releasing updates to "Windows Malicious File Scanner", which is like microsoft's once-a-month virus scanner. It's useless and can be avoided. If you're using an XP system today it's better to just turn off updates all together now. There's no more security fixes, no more OS patches, it's just that stupid malicious scanner.

I think this months updates were the last anyhow as I just read that the XP support for the Malicious File Scanner and MS Security Essentials just ended.

There are still XP security updates beeing made for those who pay for it but as Microsoft dosnt want common users to stay with XP we dont get them.

Made me a new build today. (and my first "real" Socket 370 machine)

Intel D815EEA2 Motherboard.
P-III-933.
512mb PC-133
Voodoo3-3500 Compaq.
SB-Live CT-4620. Including this addon board with extra out and input's.
80gb Harddrive, Floppy and Plextor CD-Burner.

Runs like a dream. The Voodoo is really kicking off in this build. 😜
Even though the Matrox G400 runs faster than V3-3500.
I am going to stick with the V3, just to get some good glide performance.
Funny... The V3 outperforms my Radeon9600 on this machine.

I think the board feed's the G400 too much.
It's getting extremely hot, and has some wierd GFX issues wich are not present when running on a SS7 system.
No issues at all, running on an Asus P5A and a Gigabyte GA-5AX. And no heating up like that too....

I enjoyed some 1024x768x16-gaming tonight... Uhhhh Yeah. 😜
In the weekend, I am going to test out a lot of other games, and I might replace the case on this.
Found a copy of GP-Legends to test as well on this machine. Hope it can run Return to castle wolfenstein well.

TNT2's are great when carefully selecting the right hardware.
I like them with SS7 system's using K6-II-500 and K6-III-400.
Or just a tiny bit faster than this.

They are in the league of V3-3000. On some systems a bit faster and on other systems a bit slower.
It all depends on what board, cpu and software that are running.
Paired with a V2-SLI setup, they make a real decent solution for 1997 to 1999 games.
Not the fastest performer's. No sir'. On the other hand great cards to be able to run games fluid
when settings are 640x480x32 or 800x600x32. When the TNT2 "give up" you can allways do some Glide.

I have my TNT2 Ultra Compaq edition, running with driver 29.42 and just aprox 100 points slower
when I test in 3dMark99. Perhaps I can get more performance changing driver.
On the other hand. This driver is stable and I might have to sacrifice stability when changing driver.

My issue was that it is a fairly recent XP install without ANY security updates past SP3. So I needed to access the updater to get all of the currently existing updates. Got it sorted out, and it wont be used on the web much anyways but it is good to be "as good as it gets".

Just mounted a 60mm BallBearing CPU-Fan on my V3-3500, to keep the heat down.
Used some of that cotton string that are normally used for binding meat together when cooking it.
I thought that if it's good enough for a ovenroast, then it must be ok for a V3-3500.
Tied the string through the holes on the fan and around the back of the heatsink.

You know what works really well for straightening pins, especially when you have a lot of them to straighten? A metal straight edge of some kind. You can stand entire rows of pins back up at once and then finely tweak them with the needle nose pliers if theys till won't seat in the holes properly.
