looks like 7 nano second ram so 143Mhz, 6ns is 166Mhz and 5.5ns is 183Mhz, this is of course their rated speed but in theory with good cooling should be able to run a bit higher.

These speed match up with the Vram speeds of the different models, its possible to find V3 3000 cards with 5.5Ns ram not sure if any V3 2000 had it.

Depends on the ram itself, I would increase it in 5Mhz increments till it starts to artifact and then dial it back by 1Mhz steps till its stable, good quality 7ns Vram should be able to handle a decent speed bump, might even get to 166 stable.
You can then do the same with the Core, that cooler is silly levels of overkill but at least the core will be nice and cool !

Im pretty careful when OCing my Voodoo cards, they are too damn expensive to replace so normally I give them a small bump and leave it at that you really dont get a lot out of the extra speed.

Interesting topic for the brave out there willing to mess around with their cards 🤣, im guessing it not really something the average joe would want to do.

Sounds like I will try going up to 3000 levels, by reading around it seems like every 2000 with my ram can go up to that with no issue whatsoever, then they start artifacting at around 183hz

I finally found the time to have one last go at fixing this A-Trend ATC-1762 VLB motherboard.

I started trying to get it working exactly one year ago, and got it done on the anniversary! It was a long repair that saw me having to replace the KBC socket and bodge a lot of traces because battery leakage completely ate them. Then I had to replace tantalum decoupling capacitors that decided to end their lives with a bang. Then the BIOS chip on the board turned out to be from another board entirely, so I replaced that. Finally, I had to invest into an oscilloscope to figure out my final keyboard related issues were due to a defective 7406 and replace it. All in all, it was an adventure, but I like a happy ending. It will never look as good as new, but this spaghetti mess is my only spare VLB board and a keeper 😀

Very impressive! Don't forget to clean up the flux residue with some rubbing alcohol now that you're finished.

Nice fix! VLB boards are probably my favorite along with EISA due to all the quirks.

By the way, you may want to tin those exposed traces, otherwise the bare copper may start to corrode.

heatsink, voltmod (2.2v->2.7v. However, 2.5v must be enough) , bios.

Did you solder the extra mem yourself? i thought a velocity with more than 8mb of ram was never officially released.

Considering that the only insertion I saw, other than this one, is on Amazon for over 300€ and that the italian version is very rare, I think I made a good deal 🙂

There were a number of Voodoo3 1000 cards with 16Mb and they are separate from the V100 8Mb and V200* 12Mb Velocity cards, V3 1000 is just a low cost Voodoo3 2000, its got lower clocks 125/125 to the V3 2000 and no heatsink and uses lower cost parts, uses double the memory ICs but they are low cost SGram

If you throw a heatsink and fan on a 1000 it should hit 2000 speeds with little issue.

*This one never saw release officially.

The used book market is often worse than the eBay market for vintage computers. Your book is listed at $465 on Canadian Amazon. I sometimes see guys in thrift stores that are scanning all of the books with their phone to see if they can scalp them. That really ticks me off because a lot of low income people shop at thrift stores to save money.

Scalpers are a fucking plague, not sure how you would go about stopping such activity either.
