Finally was able to benchmark all the Nvidia cards I wanted to test with the Super Socket 7 project.

Got some forum help, special thanks to Brostenen, he zipped me up some VIA and Nvidia drivers that worked well.

To sum up the Nvidia Super Socket 7 experience: A huge pain in the Arse, but if you muck around enough and / if you get them going, they are lightning fast!

Eager to put the video together and get it out the door. I spent way too much time on this 😵

And also happy to move onto the 3dfx cards, because they "just work" 😊

No problem. Happy to help when I am able to. 😀

Think it will be Win2k, BeOS and PC-Bsd in tripple boot.

Ran lots of benchmarks on my 486/66. Determined that the Turbo switch slows the system down additionally to disabling L1 and L2 cache. Summary:
Disable L2, performs like 486/50.
Turbo button slows it to a 486/20.
Disable L2 + Turbo slows it to a 386dx/40
Disable L1 or L1+L2 and it performs like a 386sx/20.
Disable L1 with Turbo slows it to a 286/10.
Disable L1 and L2 with Turbo slows it to a 286/8.
I used Sysinfo 6, Topbench, and Speedtst in addition to the usual 3dbench, pcpbench, speedsys, doom benchmarks to nail down the speeds.

To finish things off, I played some Lode Runner (1983) at normal speeds. Got 9 levels in before deciding to quit. I forgot you get an extra life every time you clear a level, and I had 8 lives left when I quit. This game goes on forever if you wait til you run out of lives before quitting!

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Built a computer! Used the AT desktop case I got recently, and kept/tested the FDD and 4 speed CDROM that came with the case. The FDD is a combo 3.5"/5.25" drive, a Canon MD5511-V6. The 3.5" part works just fine! Cool thing to have. Haven't tried the CDROM yet.

I put in a PCChips M919 with a AMD 5x86 P75 (133MHz) 486, 64MB of RAM (sure, why not 😀), S3 Virge/DX PCI, SoundBlaster AWE32 CT2760.

I quickly re-jumpered the MHz display. The case/mainboard combination is a nightmare, the FDD/IDE connections and the AT power connectors are underneath the PSU and have very little space. Also, I can't use the top one of the PCI slots since there is no slot in the back of the case

A quick picture. Don't mind the Windows NT screen, apparently it was on the HDD (which I got in a big box with other junk a while back). I guess it's a good thing it boots NT4, too bad I don't have the login details 😁

Sweet! I'd like to load Haiku again and see how that's progressing. I love BeOS and wish it had worked out better, business wise.

I tested a CT2770, Media Vision Deluxe, and YMF719 based card in my Socket 7 rig. I like the SB16 Value and have swapped it for the CT2820 I had used previously. I'm not sure if it's particular to my card, but the Yamaha is a little more noisy than the CT2770 which was surprising.

Yeah... BeOS was a nice system. Really cool.
I remember ZetaOS being demonstrated at Cebit 2005. My jaw dropped, when they dragged a movie-clip onto an empty picture file.
And thereby capturing one frame of the movie. That was, when the movie was playing. It was awesomme and it was magic.
The CT2770 that I bought in 1995 was the most noisy card that I have ever owned. Even to this day. Can you add a picture of it please?
Mine was the revision, were one of the chips had "france" printed on it.
It was so noisy, that I could hear reading and writing of the harddrive through the speakers, when nothing was played.

I have CT2770 cards with CT1745-S chips sourced from Malta and France, but the one I'm using has a CT1745A-TBP chip without country marking.

Just heat up a metal needle over a candle and stick it in the "keyed" spot in the cable and wriggle it around to melt a "hole" in it. Hold said needle with vise grips on one end. Done this lots of times. Quick and likely the easiest way to do this.

that'd work.. was just gonna get the sidecutters out. but I could use the soldering iron on a pth pin header and do that.. nice thought!

If you're interested in logging into the NT4 box, try using the offline NT password recovery tool.

AFAIK, it works for all NT-based Windows (from NT3.5 to 2012)

OMG! That's a good idea. I can use a red cable I bought now using this method.

Yeah, I might try this out of curiosity (the NT install probably was for a completely different system but always fun to try it out 😀 I'll just need to finally buy a USB to ATA cable/connector now 😀 The HDD makes an awful noise, I probably don't want to keep this one in the system 😀

I was really happy to see these parts again. When i saw the AMD P75 i smiled pretty damn hard. Trident card cool to see as well. Looks like i am going to build a new PC.

Also found drivers and a manual for the old sound card Ensoniq AudioPCI S5016. I didnt search through everything where i found these things. So when i go back perhaps ill find the sound card? I hope.

I believe this card is fairly rare? Not to mention it still has the manual, and driver CD.
