Hi all!

I am looking for more games that have decent built-in benchmarking functions or timedemos.

So far I am using:

Incoming
Unreal
Unreal Tournament
GLQuake
Quake II
Q3A
Turok
Turok 2
MDK 2
Expendable

What else is out there?

I think you'll find Shogo:M.A.D. a very worthwhile addition to this list.
Much like Half-Life though, you have to download a benchmark before you can actually do it. It goes by the name of Rev_Shogo, I'm sure I have it somewhere around here if you can't find it 😀.

Forsaken, but especially Descent 3 can also cover a nice variety of hardware.
I also thought Drakan's test run was decent as well, certainly something worth taking a look into.

Forgot that I have Forsaken 😀

Will check out Shogo (I have a demo, but didn't have much luck with it) and Descent 3.

Glad for anything you can attach here. Finding it very hard to getting information about benchmarks. Most reviewers never actually explain how they benchmark. Often it's a manual parameter like -timedemo 1 or something like that.

All Earth 2150 series games. Escape from the Blue Planet, the Moon Project, Lost Souls and Heli-Heroes.
The benchmark included in the config tool. And games are glide/d3d/openGL.
The only trouble is - there is a bug with texture loading in d3d/openGL modes. The game itself is ok but the benchmark isn't.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Jedi Knight and its addon Mots have a Framerate counter and dev console.
Jedi Knight doesn't support vertex Colored Lighting but its expansion pack Mysteries of the Sith does.

MDK 😀

It's rather rudimentary and shouldn't make any framerate difference though

But its more colorful 🤣 !
Some 3rd party levels really abuse it as the engine mixes color gradients very well.
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is also based on the same engine.

There is actually a fair difference in processing power going from greyscale to colored lighting. Even D3DRM had this option.

Done, they have been ordered 😀

Do you happen to have tried the GOG.com version under W98?

But given that it's fixed vertex lighting, and mono vertex lighting still relies on 3 RGB values the same way in D3D.... it shouldn't.

If it were lightmaps, then sure.

Found the last two on GOG.com and will see if they work on my W98 machine 😀

Couldn't find the first two, might source them second hand.

No, I don't use GOG versions at all. I prefer the original media or cd/dvd-images. Or even scene releases (if the release is clone).

Yea I bought the originals from eBay but always check out the GOG.com releases as well. I just find it interesting 😀

Well the GOG.com version seems to run fine!

So please assist me in benchmarking this game 😀

Ok the Shogo benchmark works but it is possible my processor is too fast. After a while he runs into walls and just shoots and slashes walls...
