Increasingly, it looks like SoftMPU, clone cards, and options like HardMPU are the most accessible way to go.

Do you even NEED intelligent mode MPU-401? Look at your software's documentation, because if it doesn't, you might just as well use two soundcards or an ES64XL

well at least i have pointed out that being simply MPU-401 compatible isnt the only criteria of value for some vintage enthusiasts... (the music composing type) i hope to expand on the chart above with some newer information gathered from driver updates README files etc there was updates in 1995 to the voyetra drivers (which are all small .COM drivers loaded similarly to MOUSE.COM etc) which enable the MIDI hardware to the SEQ+ app.

alexanrs? who are u talking to? i havent once mentioned intelligent mpu-401.
the Sequencer+ app im talking about does not operate in MPU-401 compatibility.
in fact it transparently disables + re-enables the mpu-401 i read in order to maintain compatibility with other apps that do use it.. but if+when a user runs the voyetra app.. it doesnt use MPU-401 mode at all. it disables it and runs its own"VAPI" drivers.

of the voyetra interfaces there are some revisions that later added "full mpu-401 compatibility" denoted by the lowercase "m" after the model number such as "V22m" or "v24sm" but like i said.. the mpu-401 compatibility is not a criteria for this app. its got its own VAPI drivers written.. for specific hardware.. the criteria for me, is getting + using one that was supported that allows me to use more than 1 midi port / 16 channels.

u can see this denoted on the chart i posted taken from the manual

file.php?id=21177&mode=view

if you are suggesting i "stack" 2x sound blaster cards in order to get two midi outputs.. i dont think that would work. otherwise they would have presented that option in their documentation..
its funny because i bet alot of the music u guys listen to in your video games was actually programmed + composed in Voyetra!!!!!! voyetra was around since 1986 atleast. possibly earlier. they ran the same ad in pc mag from 1986-1988 showing only the op-4001 interfacefor sale.

the information in the chart above is from November 1990 when v4.0 was released and the v4.0 manual was printed (where i sourced the chart from)
i checked the pc mags listed on google books magazines.. they stopped advertising in around the end of 1988 probably because they were developing their own newer interfaces around this time
(such as the v-4001 and then later the v22 + v24s) because they must have been released sometime between late 88 + late 1990. because these interfaces were not mentioned in any ads i could find.
but here they are listed in the manual chart.

anyways.. that leaves ALOT OF TIME between 1990 + 1995 for them to have made updates + additions to the drivers.
i know that they made a driver for the awe32 especially + a few other music quest interfaces

well it took me a few hours but i managed to find the info on the info on the 1995 updated drivers for sequencer plus
i havent even read it yet as im posting it .. but im about to

http://web.archive.org/web/20020409062145/htt … _ftp/340ftp.asp *1995 updated drivers*
http://web.archive.org/web/20020606075549/htt … ftp/3402003.asp *2003 updated drivers*

im pretty sure VAPI = the midi drivers
and SAPI = the audio drivers .. either synthesizer? or FM/OPL2/3?

anyway regardless of these drivers the main card for sequencer plus gold.. remains the Voyetra v22 card + v24s breakout box
this is the only solution for people who want to use this app with more then 1 or 2 midi ports
by checking the box http://www.oldschooldaw.com/forums/index.php?topic=2383.0 it seems evident that the v24 + v22 solution both share the same host card.. the card that jesolo has!

oops VAPI drivers = main voyetra drivers (your primary interface, used also for up to 2 midi input ports (with Sequencer plus gold)
and SAPI drivers = secondary drivers (secondary interface, used for additional midi output ports (no inputs will work )
you can have only 1 VAPI Driver loaded.. but multiple SAPI drivers loaded

just wanted to clarify my old post! as i didnt understand this when i wrote it
