My new build, is finished. I amed at an as-close-as-possible-99-build.

The motherboard is the Intel VC-820 that I bought some time ago.
Intel Pentium-III, running at 500 mhz, 100 mhz FSB.
It has 256 megabyte of Samsung pc-800 RD-Ram, with heatsinks.
TNT2 Ultra, AGP with 32 megabyte of memory.
A-Open 90's case. Sadly stamped 2000, yet it has been reviewed as early as 98.
Some generic lan (one of the few non-99 things)
Creative SB-Live, from 98.
Samsung 40 gig PATA drive, jumped to a 32 gigabyte drive.
A clean 300 Watt Codegen PSU, in good condition (never 100% trusting PSU's from 90's)

It is running with just a basic Win98SE install right now, as drivers and software are next.
Now, for the pictures. 😜

1.jpg
The clip on the backside of the cooler, took up too much space.
I used cable ties, in order to get it to fitt next to the cap's.

2.jpg
Closeup of the cabletie-mod.

3.jpg
The motherboard with the CPU and Mem installed.

4.jpg
The case have arrived, dusty and dirty. Yet in good condition of it's age.

5.jpg
Sadly.... Case stamped 2000. 🙁

6.jpg
Some damage/scuff-marks to the top of the case.

7.jpg
All cleaned up... Now the build can begin.

8.jpg
The case is ready to take some hardware. 😀

9.jpg
Clean case...

10.jpg
Front panel, cleaned up and ready.

11.jpg

12.jpg
Mounting screws the same, on both sides... For the looks of it.

13.jpg
Now with drives.

14.jpg
Selecting the right size and height of copper spacers.

15.jpg
Selecting the right screws for the motherboard.

16.jpg
Motherboard in place, time for some more hardware.

17.jpg
Cards in place, moving on.

18.jpg
Cable management.

19.jpg
Even more cable management, looking good enough.

20.jpg
Completed the build. Just have to swap the HDD for a Samsung.

21.jpg
All finished. Time to play. 😜

Very nice! Should play Unreal Tournament flawlessly. I'm kinda curious as to why you used RDRAM in this build, though.

How stable is it in 9x with that Rdram based chipset?
I have 1 socket 478 P4 that uses RDRAM and its, not a pleasant board to use.
So much so I haven't tried to reassemble it in many years.

They never manufactured any stable SD-Ram versions of this board.
And this was all I could get my hands on at the time.

I have to report that back later. Just finished it today. Actually only build 2 hours ago.

That is a truly 1999 setup. It looks almost exactly like mine, which I bought in 1999. It has an Intel SE440BX-2 mobo with a P3 @ 450 Mhz and 768 MB of RAM. VGA is a period correct Leadtech Winfast A-250 Ultra Graphics card. Running Windows 98 SE of course! 😎

Cool! I hope you did not cut your fingers. I always used to cut my fingers on clone mini towers. And I cut my fingers again on one in June when I picked 2 up from an estate sale. I gave them away. I prefer desktops because they stack. 🤣

Leadtek A250 is a geforce 4 ti4600 right? That's a 2002 card (and awesome) but not exactly a 1999 correct card....

The op's system has the correct 1999 card.

I have been testing this out a little. Still fiddeling about drivers for the GFX.
3D-Mark-99 and UT99 will not go into 3D.
Have been using nvidia drivers 5X throug 7X. No luck until now.

Have been sucking all drivers from phills computerlab now.
About to try those out.

Any advice on wich nVidia driver I should go for?

Det 3's 6.xx series are what I use, for TNT-GF2 in 9x.
They produce the best 3dmark scores.
https://driverscollection.com/?H=Detonator%20 … SS=Windows%20ME
Problem is don't think they have the installer version, but its the only links with them I know of anymore.
12.41's are also all around stable.
You can probably go as high as the 30's with a TNT2. Not sure where they cut-off, I don't use anything past 30.82 if its a GF2 or less. In 9x.

My advice for Nvidia drivers is to pick a driver half a year or so after whatever you're running. Driver development was like the wild west back in the days with everything focussing on squeezing more performance out for whatever was hip at the time.

Just did some benchmarking, using the various drivers and 3D-Mark99...

Very nice build! I have a build around the same board, it's very nice 😀
Though personally I wouldn't use a Codegen PSU though

Why did you change it into a 32 GB hard drive?

I did it, just to make shure, that Win98 could use the "whole" drive in one single parition.
Not that it is better or worse. I just like my builds this way.
If I had a 120 gig Seagate, I would do it with SeaTools as well.
First of all. It is a compatibility wise decision I made. 😉

Yeah I know. It was the best that I have at the moment. Else I would not do it too.
Besides noise, it seems to work like a charm.

Windows 98 should work fine with disks up to 64GB (wihtout mods). No need to jumper a 40GB drive down to 32

Other choices for correct GFX cards, would be Voodoo3 or geForce-256.
Even geForce-2 is incorrect, as it was launced in the first half of 2000.
Though it would be nice if it was a 99-card.
