A useful exercise, as i need to take stock. The herd will need to be thinned one day, but crazily there are still gaps in the collection! Seems there are 17 working or nearly working x86 machines floating around (and 14 Macs though the majority of those don't boot)

Laptops:
Alienware 18 (new games and picture processing, Win 7 Ultimate)
Asus i7 (I bought it for me, handed to the wife, Win 8.1 *yuck*)
Acer i7
Thinkpad 760CD (intending to play DOS games on it)
Thinkpad 760EL (it was advertised as an XL,which is what I wanted, so the search continues - might try Openstep)
Thinkpad 755C (486DX4-75 with 20MB RAM, on its way over)
Thinkpad 360CS (owned it since new, 1995)
Dock II which works with all four Thinkpads

Still to get:
TP760XL/D, IBM 5140 Convertible, Compaq LTE, Canon Notejet III

Desktops:
Core2 QX9650 in htpc case (email and Web browsing, media serving)
Amstrad PC4386SX 386SX20 w/co-pro (equivalent to my first PC back in '92)
Pentium II gaming machine (picked up from next to a dumpster)
Dell Dimension 4500 P4 (rescued and cleaned)
shuttle FB51G P4 (plan to give to the family to use)
opteron 185 machine (planned for Xp gaming)
P4 based on Itox board with CF onboard and ISA slots (was going to be my original retro DOS box until the PII showed up)
Parts for a desktop 486DX2/66
Parts for a Socket 7 machine (Pentium, Winchip or IBM CPU)
Parts for a Socket 370 build

Still to get:
5150, maybe Compaq Deskpro 486

I have an attic full of parts and stuff but currently only my Core i7 machine is in usable condition...
Well and my 440BX machine works somewhat, but right now it's only a mainboard on a table with some cards in it.

I do have some more semi-complete PCs, but they all have parts missing and/or no OS installed.
- Sharp PC7000
- Pentium 2 laptop
- Pentium 133 laptop
- 486 laptop
- S478 Penitum 4 with 7800GS
- S775 Pentium 4
- some 386
- IBM 5150

I used to have over 20 rigs completed, but these days I'm down to I guess around 10 rigs or so.
3 multicore systems
3 A64 systems running XP (one is down atm though and will be rebuild soon)
1 Sempron sA 2600+ (I might rebuild it though, or at least change the specs (CPU upgrade perhaps))
1 P3-s 1400 on a Gigabyte mobo (Windows ME and 256MB SDRAM)
1 P3 1000 somewhere in the attic
1 P3 933 on a VC-820 Slot 1 board (Windows ME)
1 Celeron 800 on a s370 BX board (Windows ME)
The rest escapes me for the moment 😁

It depends on the case used - there are plenty of them supporting large PCI-E VGAs.

I have to....there is just no sense in keeping boards etc. that i never use. I have the right systems (for me) up and running and have backup parts for all of them (and even backups for the backups...)
So only when i get older than 250 years or so i might be forced to use the other parts 🤣

And when i sell off some parts i feel less guilty when i'm buying more stuff i WILL use 😎 Just need some balance (or a doctor!)

Nice systems guys. My junk:

-Main system - Core 2 Quad Q6600, 4GB DDR2 800, 1TB HD, Radeon HD4830 512MB - Windows 8.1
-DX9 and lower gaming: Core 2 Duo E6400, 3GB DDR2 667, 250GB HD, Radeon X800 GTO, 5:4 monitor - Windows XP Pro
-Dell Dimension E310 - Pentium 4 524 HT, 2GB DDR 533, 100GB HD, Integrated GPU - Windows XP Home Media Center. I don't really use it for much, trying to find a role for it. Funny enough, the integrated GPU is some Intel GMA chip, and when I put in my GeForce FX 5200 PCI thinking it would be an upgrade, they scored very similarly in benchmarks, so I said screw it and removed the FX 5200.

Laptop - HP Pavillion DV2315 Turion x2 1.6ghz, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HD, Integrate - Crunchbang Linux
Laptop - Dell Inspiron 500m 1.3 ghz Pentium M, 512MB Ram, 20 GB HD - pfSense (currently my router)

I been looking around and I'm thinking about rebuilding my first PC from my childhood. Such a pain trying to find a case that looks similar to it, when all I can go on is memory.

One every day/game rig [W7/FX8350 @ 4.8/Noctua NH-D14/7870-LE/SSD boot] and 6 retro boxes [486, P233, C300@450, P933, P1400, P3600]. A 4-port KVMA switch connects 4 of the 6 retro boxes at any one time, so I have relatively little monitor/keyboard/mouse stuff on hand. Also rescued a little HP Mini netbook from the junk/forgotten pile at work.

Retro gear in action centered around Glide [V1, V2-SLI, V3, V5], Rendtion Verite [QDI-8mb], earlier 2D [CL-5443, 3D-2000], A3D [Vortex 1 & 2], Sound Blaster/comp [CT1750, CT2700, ES1868-F, with NEC XR385 and AdWave32 daughter boards], and a 7900GTX on the P3600 XP rig.

My list ...

  • IBM PCjr (several varieties with expansion units, sidecars, etc.)
  • IBM PC 5150 (several, including one with a 5161 expansion)
  • IBM PC 5160 (several)
  • IBM PC 5162 (assembled from parts, more of a frankenputer)
  • IBM PC AT 5170 (several)
  • IBM PC Convertible (5140)
  • IBM PS/2 Model 25
  • IBM L40SX (386 class laptop)
  • Two IBM Aptivas, fairly generic. (Not the nice split system)
  • Generic 386DX-40 in an IBM AT case (the original mTCP development machine)
  • Generic 486-66DX/2 VLB in an IBM AT case (my original Redhat 6.1 system.)
  • Compaq 4/33i (compact desktop system)
  • Gateway tower (P166)
  • Generic P133 clone (Win98 and DOS)
  • And some generic Pentium-II class and later machines

I really need to thin some out. The problem with the PCjrs is that a lot of them are modified in some way, so many of them are kind of unique.

One nice thing about having this kind of variety is that I have a pretty good range of machines to test mTCP on. (At least 10 on that list are used for testing in addition to my testing with DOSBox and virtual machines.)

My collection is rather modest, both due to a lack of space and practicality

Pentium 133 machine with an S3 Virge DX , Voodoo 1 and 64Mb , for games up to 1996 or so.
Athlon 1400 machine with a Voodoo 5500 , 300GB SCSI HDD and 1GB of DDR RAM , for games from late 1996 to 2001.
A customized HP XW4400 , with a Core2Duo E6600 , 2GB DDR2 ECC and a 512Mb X1900XT , for DX8/9 games up to 2007 or so .

I also have my modern i5 3570k/8GB DDR3/GF770 machine obviously.

I do have several motherboards and a bunch of ethernet , graphics and sound cards , so I could easily build more computers , but given that between these PCs I can 99% of the games I want, its not necessary . if I was going to get another computer, it would not be a PC but rather something like an Amiga or Atari ST.

I try to keep at least one machine representative of a major generation:
Juko XT 12Mhz, 640kb, 2GB SCSI
Harris 286 20Mhz, 16MB, 1GB IDE
Amd 386sx-40, 16MB, 1GB IDE
Intel 486dx2-66, VLB, 32MB, 10GB
Amd 486dx5-133, 64MB, 40GB
Pentium 90Mhz, 128MB, 40GB
Pentium II 333Mhz, 256MB, 40GB
Pentium III 700Mhz, 512, 40GB
Although, they are not PC compatibles (except for my PM6100 - DOS compatible), I also keep several vintage Macs just for fun.
