Hi all.
Just wonder which AWE64-gold one should look for, when buying?

AFAIK there are 2 model numbers, the CT4390 and the CT4540. Tell you the truth i don't know the practical differences between the 2 besides the CT4540 looks slightly shorter. It was probably cheaper to manufacture. As far as functionality i believe they are pretty much the same.

The question has been raised before here:
AWE64 Gold Differences

Looking at them side by side (picture courtesy of 3dfx.ch forum) It appears the board layout is nearly identical except for the larger CT8908 chip on the CT4390 being shrunk and a different package for the Emu8k chip. I'm not sure if it's a simple cost-reduction die-shrink, or some minor functionality has been changed. It was mentioned elsewhere that QSound was disabled in drivers after the release of the newer CT4540. I see FAR more CT4390's than CT4540 out in the wild.

I would say that the first gold is the better choice, because of a (perhaps) lower price.
Gold's are as far as I can see, not that different as to a gigantic, higher price, is excuseable.
If the later model is the rarest, it's understandable that it costs more.
(Unless the later model, have less line-noice)

I guess they are pretty awesome, both models.
I have actually put up my two V1's, my QDI P5I437P4/FMB and some other hardware, in order to get money for an AWE64-Gold.
It is now the time to part with my V1's, as I never use them, and I will have more fun with an Gold.
I have decided that some other Danish retro entutiast should have the Voodoo-fun with my cards now.
(Danish online marketplace, and will not sell through Vogons)

Same here. I had both and didn't figure any difference except for PCB size. CT4540 are more rare, so you may go for CT4390 to pay less.

I would keep one Voodoo though. They're a nice piece of history.

Nope... Done with Voodoo, all games I play, are not limied to Glide-only.
The only reason for a new Voodoo purchase, would be to make my 99-rig even more 99'ish.
It's running TNT2-Ultra at the moment, and I need to check it out with my G400 first.

Love the TNT2-Ultra for that generation of card. It's one of those cards that just plain works.

Yes. The TNT2 ultra is a mighty card for games up until 1999.
And I love the G400 as well. That card is really great too.
I guess I have all I need for that 99 rig that I need as of now.
Only reason to get that V3 is to make a true gamers choice from 99.

My dos machine is running Cirrus Logic PCI.
And it's just a plain old reliable card. Nothing fancy at all.
