The bottom pin is 12v, the center pin is ground, and the top pin is a speed sense.(This is just a guess, I'm not really sure and I'm at work and can't test my p2 cooler at home)

It's not your standard 3 pin plug like you'll find on the motherboard, if you lost the cable that goes from the fan to the board you can.

1. Find another cable
2. Replace the fan
3. Solder wires to the pins on the fan.

You could tightly wrap the pins with wire, solder is preferred for a sure connection. Then attach it to a 3 pin connector to the board or attach it to one of the connecters that go to a drive.

Sometimes if the fan is too loud for me I shove the ground wire into the 5v part of a floppy connector and then connect the positive side of the fan to the yellow wire of floppy connector. This will run the fan at 7v which is fast enough to cool it but slow enough to be quiet.

Well, I do have some extra 3 pin cables laying around, might as well "sculpt" one to fit on this thing (don't want to solder directly to the cooler, the pins seem to align just fine), solder another female port on the other end and just plug it in like a regular cooler cable.

Trimming one with a sharp knife or razor should work. If you want I can take a picture of mine with both ends so that you can see which wire goes where on the 3pin plug for the board so that you don't get them crossed.

Here is a picture of both ends of the connector. This is on a PII 350 with the boxed cooler, should be the same as yours.

Well, it doesn't look too elegant, but it works! Time to switch out the the old PII 300. Thanks for the help.

Now that it's built what are you going to do with it? I quickly get bored with my systems and start swapping around parts just to see the difference. The 9x games that came out near the end of the 9x run work fine on 8.1 for me and DosBox covers most of the dos games(Wish it ran Ancient Art of War in the Skies correctly) it has only been the earlier 9x games that I've really needed to use period hardware/software.

Well this machine was previously a Voodoo 1 build, was fun to mess around with for a few weeks, however it just couldn't run games at a steady framarate when it came to stuff that came out after 1997. I figure this will keep me entertained for a month or so and I'll see where I can go from there.

On a side note, I'm really surprised how cool the P3 runs, its got a small, enclosed heatsink with a smaller fan, while the PII was getting constant airflow from a 90mm fan on the side along with its main one and was still hotter even when idling.
