Diamond Multimedia Viper V550 ATX TNTA AGP 16MB, a video card that came with my Dell Dimension XPS T600.

I already have a Voodoo3 3500 TV. How does this card compare to my Voodoo3? Is this card complete rubbish when compared to the Voodoo3 or is it actually useful for say something like DOS gaming when compared to the Voodoo 3 3500? What about Win9X gaming?
How do these 2 cards compare in these 2 aspects: DOS gaming and Win9X gaming?
Which one should I go with if say I am building a MS-DOS 6.22 machine or a Pentium 3 Wind 98SE machine?

Riva TNT, graphic chipset of your Viper V550 is the best competitor of 3Dfx Voodoo2

slightly slowly of a Voodoo2 but capable of higher resolution

With Voodoo3 there is no history... Voodoo3 3500 goes faster than a Riva TNT2 Ultra

Olivetti M290 / 386SX 16MHz / 4MB / 100MB HDD / TSENG ET3000 / Opti 82c931
Commodore 486DX33C / 486DX2 66MHz / 8MB / 500MB HDD / WD90c30 / Vibra16
Pentium MMX 233MHz / 64MB / 8.4GB HDD / Millennium II 4MB / 3Dfx Voodoo / Creative SoundBlaster AWE64 GOLD

Voodoo 3 - especially the 3500 version is about as fast as a TNT2 Ultra. They both have their own advantages and disadvantages. The Voodoo 3 TV is great in DOS as well as 3D games + it has Glide support. The TNT2 is a little faster and smoother in 3D, but some dos games stutter / frameskip (Golden Axe, Supaplex) or blatantly refuse to run (Descent II under DOS), while they run great on the Voodoo 3.

The TNT2 Ultra also scales better with a faster CPU. I managed to top out my Voodoo 3 TV with a socket 370 P3 at 1GHz...

TL;DR - go for the Voodoo 3.

P.S. - is there a way to use the Voodoo 3 TV without the cumbersome dongle? It's output looks like a DVI port with four extra pins...

Hard to say how fast exactly, without doing some benchmarking and just testing out with games.
You got the cards, then just do some testing then?

A lot of tests and benchmarking, have shown the V2 running in SLI as being as fast as V3-3000.
The same results have shown that the V3-3500 outperforms both V4 and V2 in SLI.
And the TNT2 Ultra is roughly the same as the V3-3000 as many others point out.

For better performance using nVidia solutions, then get a GF2 (MX models excluded) or faster.
Just don't expect much from the TNT card you pulled from the Dell.

Think that this is the link youre looking for...http://www.cnews.cz/clanky/test-historickych- … 1999/strana/0/3 . Its in czech, but who needs talking around, when you have there graphs, many cards and many games tested. Looks like Riva TnT is rival for Voodoo Banshee, not for Voodoo 3.

True... That's what people have been saying here.
They are talking about the TNT-2 being the rival of Voodoo3 and TNT-1 being the rival of Voodoo2.

I once had this exact same card. Good performance and image quality but had input lag and showed wrong palette in a few DOS games.

TNT was about as fast as a Voodoo 2, TNT2 was about as fast as a Voodoo 3, the voodoo's where slightly faster and had glide support, but TNT supported full 32bit rendering and at the time the TNT/TNT2 did much better in OpenGL titles, they traded blows in D3D and of course voodoo had Glide.
