How ideal is it to use the right chassis for specific AT and ATX hardware eras? Functionally, there's the different front panel connectors that should match, but aesthetics should not be ignored either. I'd just like to hear some preferences and experiences on this subject.

Do not refrain from refusing to stop hindering yourself from the opposite of watching nothing other than that which is by no means porn.

When it comes to AT motherboards, in my opinion, there is only one choice: AT cases, and there is no modern alternative to them. It's of course physically possible to use ATX cases for AT boards, but I don't like the idea much.

For ATX boards, I generally choose rather modern cases. Availability and functionality overcomes the "era correct aesthetics" for me.

My only AT-Board has the same type of stuff, as one of the ATX equivelant. (SS7 based board)
And it is sitting inside an AT case. I have had it in an ATX, yet it somehow did not feel right.
I actually tried 3 different ATX-Case setup's with this board.

I will go with tayyare on this. As of what AT cases for AT boards goes.

Saying that. It just depends on what you will build as of what ATX boards go.
My choice is one system, that are period correct for the fun of it.
In this build, I have choosen to use an ATX case from the same period.

In my other builds, I have choosen more recent cases. Easy to find and cheap to buy.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

Theres the possible incompatibility between an AT motherboard and ATX case. That's what puts me off, although every AT PC I've ever got came in a case so had little reason to worry.
ATX I liker the newer cases with better case flow and cable management but will mainly use whatever I have lying around.

yep ive got that with my SS7 in an ATX case, the upper rear corner of the board has no place to attach at all, so I stuck a plastic standoff and superglued it down for now, will pick up an AT case tomorrow 🤣.
