I just bought ES1688s Audiodrive card, because my ES1879s was probably damaged a bit and not working in SE version of Windows 98. ES1688s works fine, but I noticed that sound quality is a lot worse than the previous card! When it played Windows Welcome screen music, i expected some massive bass to kick in, but it sounded like laptop speakers... but I was playing that on my 2.0 6,5 inch audio monitors. I recorded the output with firewire audio interface and attached that. That card uses TEA2025B amplifier, the same like in ES1879s, but the sound is really flat... should that sound like this, or is it a problem with the sound chip, amplifier (maybe it's counterfeit?), or caps?

You could always attempt to disconnect what look like JP1 and JP2 and then reconnect Pin 1-2 (Instead of 2-3 as it appears now) to get Line Out, or wire Pin 1 on each directly to a cable and see if the problem goes away as that would eliminate some potential problem circuitry.

I just soldered audio jack to preamp pins, and, what's interesting, everything sounds fine when only one channel is connected. When I connect second channel, all the bass goes away...

Perhaps the ground is not connecting properly or the signal pins are connected together somewhere?

Can you confirm that the card has working stereo output? That MP3 makes it look as though this is not the case.
