I like the DDR3 8600gt because people toss them all of the time and they make great Aero cards for a Vista or 7 machines with crappy GMA graphics.

Yeah I actually have 3 of them around for that too. They handle HD video quite well. I had one that caused BSODs though, probably because of the solder issue.

I have a soft spot for S3 - though the original S3 was not ideal, as soon as 3d games became serious business the upgraded DX - as in Diamond 3D 2000 - coupled with a Voodoo 1 was *the* hot setup. Great 2D/Dos/VGA and game-changing 3dfx Glide.

But not because of technical incompetence. They just tried to swim against the flow.

Well, technically there was no flow when they started swimming. This was a VERY early 3d accelerator. The 3dfx Voodoo wasn't out yet.

Just tested recording on Avermedia card - worst 3D card was mine first choice. Trident rocks compared to Alliance aT3D. Sorry no sound, have to buy some soundblaster (onboard audio dead).

You know, I was going to say CGA - even in 1981, the snow in 80 column mode was pretty inexcusable, IMO, for a machine of the IBM PC's caliber, and then the oversights of not providing for 640x200x4 and 320x200x16 modes with memory expansions were bad enough - but no, that Alliance card makes even CGA look good.

Well, i dont know if it's the "Tbuffer effect" but it seems at least smooth on frame rate.. 😁

Yeah framerate is good - i think its because it render only small part or objects. But i think its great card for "Guess the game". With this one it won't be so easy 😈 When i get somewhere sound card i will record more of this fancy stuff....

Worst video card ever?

ATI RAGE IIC. Wouldn't want to touch that ever again or have it be near any of my S370/PII boards. Slow and USELESS AGP card. Would rather use a Matrox G400,a S3 Trio 3d/2x or just some plain stoopid FX5200 w/a fan.

Created its own channel for Alliance aT3D - added Turok video and Final Reality. Now uploading 3DMark 99 Max. Style of rendering is as always "unique" 🤣 Looks like they implemented hidden surface removal, but bit overpowered it.

Think you have a "win" there chap! Makes the Cirrus Laguna 5464, Trident 3D Image 975 and S3 Trio 3D/2X look utterly awesome!!!
How is the 2D side of that thing? The laguna's 2D is pretty awful in DOS, Trident and S3 Trio are pretty good however.

Worst 3D I have personally tested so far is the Matrox G100 Productiva, but it never really was sold as a 3D card, it's better than that Alliance though!!

While probably not the worst ever, the Geforce FX 5600 was pretty bad. When my eVGA Geforce 4 Ti 4400 128MB died, I sent it in for RMA and they sent me the FX 5600 256MB as a replacement. This card was awful. Everything was slower... EVERYTHING. I can't remember how it compared to the 4400 in price at the time (the 4400 was no longer made then) but if eVGA thought it was comparable, they were way off.

I sold it it and replaced it with a Tyan Tachyon Radeon 9600 Pro, which was a great card... in fact, I still have it!

I can't honestly remember any other graphics card that disappointed me so much. The Geforce 7950gx2 was a big steaming turd sandwich, but it was quite unusual and the issues were expected... Nvidia totally redeemed themselves with the 8800GTX that same year though.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

On the bright side it was at least fast and had that quality image output, making a good Millenium substitute to pair a Voodoo / PCX2 with 😀

its 3d is ok....if you have a bad mip lodbias/ alpha dither fetish.

I only think of AT3D as that chip used on some Voodoo Rush boards.

And some brave guys from Super Grace made also single card. Actually these tests are made on card marked as AT-25 (sold as non 3D variant), but it looks exactly same as AT3D (and is also detected by drivers). So i guess they only changed marking and rather started selling them as 2D only card.

For me it's the Sis 6326 , working in a game shop that sold predomenintly PC games it was the bane of my existance when I had to tell 6 year old kids they couldn't play a 3D Accelerator Required game , on their 6326 even tho the salesman that sold them the 6326 for a huge inflated price said it's a "3D Accelerator", and it being sold well into 2005 didn't help.

It had the most basic DirectX support and no Opengl (beta drivers don't count, as it didn't work properly and got sis sued) support.

SiS 6326 is a country mile away from worst 3D card, but by 2005 !!!! Well that is well beyond sell by date, these were socket 7 directx 5/6 cards at best and no more.

That's precisely the problem , the market here was flooded with the cheap Chinese manufacturer verients of it, hence why it caused a problem , especially in the 1998-2001 erra where some games required a 3D Card
