I am having a bad time setting up UT99 on my W98 P3 machine. Its got a Voodoo2 SLI and a Geforce 4600 Ti.
Would really like to be able to select which video device I want while starting the game.
Running UT in safe mode lets me choose between:

3dfx Glide
Direct3D Support
Software

There are no problems while using Glide, but Direct3D mode (4600 Ti) crashes the game to desktop just after launch.
Nvidia card is tested on 3DM2000 without showing any issues with DX9.

Could I get some advice?

What version of ut 99 do you have
I'm wondering why opengl isnt an option ? (maybe because you installed 3dfx drivers after gf4 drivers)
also there are alternative renderers since you have a gf4 dont use dx9 or 10 renderers

Even the last UT version shows only 3 certified renderers - 3dfx, d3d and software. You must choose "Show all devices" to select ogl.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

I've tried with 3DCC without any luck 🙁
Using utglr37 and choosing OpenGL render performs very poorly on my system, way worse than using D3D.

UTGLR 3.7 doesn't work on 9x. Try 3.4.
