Hello.
Been a while ....

Put this in the DOS section, since I didn t find a "other" section 😀
Won t mind if it's moved.

Is there anyone succesfull with a Debian Jessie and Voodoo 2 ?
Why ? Because you can 😜

I manage to have q3demo running with my Voodoo 2 Sli, even if I have libGL from a Nvidia 6800 proprietary driver.
Just running
# q3demo
Which is a short cut for ./q3demo +set r_gldriver libMesa-blabla

I think Quake3 is the most versatile game to play with on Linux/BSD, without old needs from the old libvga as glquake was.

So, as I wan't to run Unreal classic ( Unreal Gold in fact) on glide with my old Pentium 4 , GeForce 6800 + V2 Sli,

I know it can be done via wine, I already did it in 1998 on a RedHat 5.2 and Voodoo 1 on my Pentium 233 MMX 😀
It was more stable than the win98 machine, I always ended to be the server machine ..
(Yes, I'am quite an old guy )

All the tests in /usr/lib/glide2/bin run on Debian.
Well ... Most of them.
But even with the original Voodoo Graphics (Voodoo 1 ) some didn t work.
So this might not be an issue.

Now I wan t to run Unreal on Jessie.

Of course I could use WinXP or Win98, they both work perfectly with V2 Sli 😀
But this is out of topic.

Milliways is the general forum. Old hardware and its configuration should be in Marvin. This forum is just for DOS games.

Not sure about the debian version, or about using Voodoo, and most
definitely not about using glide, but back about the time of Unreal
Tournament, I was using the Linux port of it to run Unreal 1. A bit
of work and there were some problems. (Some of which I heard were
fixed. On the other hand that was a decade+ ago, so some things may
no longer work with newer libraries.)

There was a installer from icculus for Unreal Gold at
https://icculus.org/~ravage/unreal/unrealgold/
but you'll need a copy of Unreal Tournament and have it running on Linux.
If you don't have access to the Loki port, which I would suspect is more
than a little rare, you could try using the installer with the
more common Windows version of Unreal Tournament at
http://www.liflg.org/?catid=6&gameid=51
And some tips at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Games/Nativ … nrealTournament
And not the slightest clue if the GOG version would work. (My personal
suspicion would be no.)
Otherwise I think you would be forced to use Wine as I remember Unreal
as being only a Windows game.

And I would suspect that you will run into problems, with no solutions being easily present.

Moved to Marvin. Maybe a better topic title is needed 😉

I have a native Linux executable of Unreal Gold on one of my Mint (Ubuntu) machines. I used the OldUnreal.com 227 patch/port. If you have a win* version already installed somewhere you can just copy it over & drop in the Linux executable instead of trying to run the installer under Wine.

I seem to remember having some problems getting the music to play with FMOD - it involved installing the 32-bit ALSA libs (my actual distro is x86_64) and fiddling with alsa.conf, but that shouldn't be a problem in your case. The sound config on that machine has always been messed up anyway so maybe you'd have a more painless process.

NO idea about getting it going with a Voodoo2. You'd have to use OGL from the looks of it.

I don't think I got UT going as Linux native but I had it set up with a WINE wrapper on the same machine that worked fine.
