ok.. my cards not installed at the moment and i just thought id ask..

1)is it possible to trigger the EMU8000 chip (&built in percussion sounds of the sb32) from an external midi keyboard via another MIDI interface? (for example, i have a PSR225GM keyboard that i can connect its midi out port to the midi in on my winman 4x4/s ISA card midi interface..)

2)is it possible to output the soundfont output, the GS banks, or loaded .WAV samples via the SPDIF of the SB32 PNP?
if not.. is this possible at all on any other card? such as the real fullblown awe32 or awe64 gold?

About the first question: not directly, but if you are using Windows you can use something like MIDI-Ox to redirect one MIDI input to a MIDI output. That should work then, but I'm unsure if it would introduce a big enough latency to be an issue.

i had it running before i moved with cubase 1.0 on windows 3.1
i remember on midi channel 10 it would play drum samples from the built in GM sounds in the SB32 card itself..
i never had it hooked up via spdif as i dont have a 2pin to coaxial backplate to connect to the card.. if anyone knows here i can buy such a
thing especially for the sb32/awe32 id love to hear where??

im trying to find one.. im just wondering if these drum samples were "wave" based.. because i remember reading that
only the synthesized stuff comes out of the spdif output..

is there anyone here that has experience using the spdif output from an awe32 or sb32?

Yes, it's possible (even on SB32 and AWE64 Value). But be aware that the voltage levels on the internal header are higher than the SPDIF standard.

You need to reduce the waveform voltage by a factor of five and remove the DC bias. The solution with a voltage divider and transformer is by far the superior option.
