Hey guys, I just found this weird netbook from 1999, and it looks like it's still in the box (never opened).
The model is the MPC-101M33F, it has 32MB of ram, 2,9GB od HDD, 6,7" TFT screen, a touchpad (I belive it's better than the libretto solution),one PCMCIA and one usb slot.
The processor is a cyrix 200MHz, I belive it's the GXm model (and with that, I belive the sound card is the expressAUDIO and vídeo is expressGRAPHICS)
size: 210mm x 135mm x 30mm

IT comes with Windows 98 (english version), computer and Windows manual, ac cable, Windows 98 disk and also some kind of backup disc...
The price is like U$87,3033 including shipping, so, is it a good notebook?
my main questions are:
-does it have opl3? and if it's not the true opl3, is it at least good? and is it emulated?
-the sound card has wavetable support?
-what about the graphics card, is it good for dos games? and is it a 2D only or also a 3D graphics card?
-does it work with ms-dos games? only on Windows or can it be played in ms-dos mode (and with that, with sound)
-is there some information about the HDD support? does it support hdds like 160GB?
-How good/bad is it compared to the Toshiba libretto 110?

Here're some screenshots showing the product

I believe the on board audio and video solutions are highly integrated and as such it has no 3d support or wavetable, and the opl3 emulation is mediocre at best. I could be wrong.

I bought it D: ...
Updates: I discovered that the bios settings has an sound blaster 16 option where u can set the irq and dma, I guess this sound card is dos compatible then (I just hope the fm synth isnt that bad)
Also, I discovered that this particular netbook support some docking station, and I actualy found it to sell, but only on japan/china, when I have this guy on my hands, I hope I could figure out a way to buy the dock (and it was actually cheap, if I remember it was just $5).
With the dock there were even a floppy disc drive, so I could even transfer data btw my other desktop *__*
EDIT: Holly nachos1!!! this processor has the performance of a Pentium 60? O_____O (Now I really hope the opl3 is really good, because then I'll have a 486 that could be a 286 disabling the cache 🤣 )

MediaGX supports SB16 under real DOS, OPL3 sounds a bit off to me, but I'm no OPL connaisseur. Videowise... Mode X/Mode Y isn't great on MediaGX... Doom will have some slowdown, Lost Vikings will have some scrolling issues.

The Cyrix Media GX core is based on Cyrix 5x86, so yes Pentium 60 performance is about right. I have a Compaq Presario 2232 Desktop and it's a fairly competent little Win 95/dos machine considering it was bottom of the barrel and cheapest of the cheap in 1997 when it was made.

Idk, this reminds of my old aztech sound card fm synth quality or virtual pc 200x opl3 emulation 😵

Yes, that is the same as the model I have, the speakers built into the case are really meaty, have these tubes that run to outlets on the back of the case, "premiere sound" as Compaq called it! 🤣

I was thinking that it could play half life 1, but I think I'm too confident 🤣 , so here's a more lite question.
Can it run quake 2 in 320x240 with playable fps? (with playable, it could be something like a Pentium 133 gameplay)
And, the processor can be overclocked/underclocked by software?

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but did you ever end up doing anything with these? If not I would be interested in buying them, I've been searching for months and can't find anything like them anywhere.

I can't says for those, but are there still people interested in the sound quality of the opl3 emulation of the Cyrix MediaGxm ? I've got a compaq presario that has that cpu and I can record it if you want

Trying to identify old hardware ? Visit The retro web - Project's thread The Retro Web project - a stason.org/TH99 alternative

Under ideal conditions, a Cyrix Media GX 200 has about the integer performance of a P133 and the floating performance of a P100. When I say ideal conditions, I mean for systems which have enough RAM that they aren't swapping the RAM to disk, systems which are not using PIO for HDD access, and for systems which are NOT using the MediaGX's integrated audio/video. On my MediaGX system, I use a Voodoo Banshee PCI card, an ISA AWE64, a PCI UDMA-100 IDE card, and 192 MB of RAM. I can imagine under non-ideal conditions that a GXm-200 may approach Pentium 60 speeds.
