Hello,
I have Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital model: SB0220. Its working fine in Win98, but I cant use it in any DOS game.
Windows see it as Creative emu10kx card and I only read IRQ value - 10.
I have no idea how to get other parametrs needed to activate this card in DOS games.
I read a lot about config sound cards in DOS but still I need to ask you for help.

Are you trying to run a DOS game while Windows 98 is running, or are you trying to run a DOS game in MS-DOS mode?

In the latter case, you'll need the DOS drivers (I think it's SBEINIT.COM for that card), but it probably won't work on anything newer than a Pentium III. It should work adequately in Windows 98, though.

Thanks for reply.
I`ve got IBM 300GL with MMX 200.
I tried in Win98 and in "pure" DOS - result is the same.
Sorry, I`m nooby in all this DOS things, etc. Where I can find SBEINIT.COM drivers and how to install it? It should be installed in DOS?

If this topic should be in Marvin I`ve be glad if any moderator may move it.

You get it from wherever you normally get sound card drivers.

If you don't have an installation CD, you can get a copy of it from http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?file … menustate=40,33 .

I`m using this driver on Windows.
How to install this SBEINIT.COM in DOS or Windows?

Sorry, my mistake. I installed other driver, I`m not sure now whitch one.
So I should just uninstall current and install from this CD?
Sound in DOS should appear?

Some games have additional setup.exe where you shoud choose audio card and all this IRQ, DMA stuff. How could I know whis informations for my card?

Well, I sure don't know!

Why not try it and find out?

The sound card settings should be automatically configured by the installation CD. Afterwards, the easiest thing to do is to type "set blaster" on the command line, which should display something like

BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6

The important thing is the first three numbers after "A", "I", and "D", which correspond to address, IRQ, and DMA.

When I try to start setup I only get information:

Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audio card on your system.

I tried to install drivers manualy but I couldnt find it on this CD.
Windows automaticly install previous drivers:

Creative EMU10K1 Audio Processor
Creative EMU10K1 Gameport
Creative Joystick Emulation

I tried to put "set balster" into DOS, but I only get error. Should I put it somewhere else?

Where in DOS did you put it, and it's misspelled.

I/O, I/O,
It's off to disk I go,
With a bit and a byte
And a read and a write,
I/O, I/O

I put correctly, "set blaster" when I rebooted PC in DOS mode.

I just get "syntax error".

Same result for command.exe in Windows.

I could change PCI port with Lan card if it could change anything. : )

Edit:

I found this, but links are dead.

$Re: DOS driver for SB0220 available?* Try this:
www.ixbt.com/multimedia/sbli've-dos/audigy-dos.zip
www.ixbt.com/multimedia/images/sound/sb ... dos4gw.zip
www.ixbt.com/multimedia/images/sound/sb ... ndbank.zip

You must copy all files in same directory, for example C:\Li've. Command lines in autoexec.bat:?

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D H5 P330 T6

SET CTSYN=C:\LIVE

C:\LIVE\SBEINIT.COM

Patch Audigy2.exe isn't necessary for Li've! and Audigy cards, don't past it in your autoexec.bat. Options to tuning driver you'll find in file CTSYN. INI, or use built-in programs to tune and monitor. That's all.

Which Setup program did you run, and how did you run it?

Also, are you sure this is an SB0220? Is that exactly what is written on the card?

www.ixbt.com/multimedia/images/sound/sb ... dos4gw.zip

Those links got mangled somehow. These work:

http://www.ixbt.com/multimedia/sblive-dos/audigy-dos.zip
http://www.ixbt.com/multimedia/images/sound/s … -dos/dos4gw.zip
http://www.ixbt.com/multimedia/images/sound/s … s/soundbank.zip

But I think you should stick with the driver CD. If that doesn't work, these probably won't work either.

I tried to start major setup - as autorun file said - /CTRun/Ctrun or CTRun/start.
Driver installed when I choosed Audio/Drivers/Ctzapxx. I have 2 oprions - VXD drivers or WDM. I installed VXD and it didnt helped.

Yes, its written on the audio card - SB0220.

I tried to copy files you linked me but while Windows is starting its to fast to read, I started Autoexec file on started Windows and its the result:
7D77UiP.png

I still dont have sound in DOS games.

SB0220 is a SB Live 5.1 Digital. AFAIK, these cards don't use DOS drivers or emulation. I could be wrong about that. Anyway, check this out:

How to get Sound Blaster Emulation in Win9X/ME via live!5.1 with newer-current mobo's (no nmi-ddma)

I have an SB0220 too, but I've never used it with Win9x. I've always used AWE64 whenever possible, and CT4830 or CT4620 when not possible.

Ideal for DOS:
SBPro
SBPro 2
SB16
AWE32
AWE64

Less than ideal, but can be made to work:
CT4620, and other 1st-gen SBLive cards

Even less ideal, but can still usually be made to work:
CT4830, and other 2nd-gen SBLive cards

Not ideal:
3rd-gen SBLive cards like the SB0220 and anything newer

Again, please check this link and try the suggestions found there:

How to get Sound Blaster Emulation in Win9X/ME via live!5.1 with newer-current mobo's (no nmi-ddma)

Sorry, I`m so cunfused, too much new things for me.

Many people prefer to use ISA sound cards when building DOS rigs.

Yah, really. Considering this PC is an IBM 300GL with a P200 MMX, why are you using a PCI sound card? An ISA card would be a much better choice. Get a cheap AWE64 Value and don't look back: CT4500, CT4501, CT4502, CT4520. This is your cheapest solution.

However, your easiest & best solution is a real SB16 CT2230 or CT2290, but it's gonna cost a bit more.

Piecho,

I think that you're gonna have a bunch of headaches with that SB0220 if your goal is to play DOS games. I strongly recommend an ISA sound card for that PC.
