My Athlon machine runs a Vortex 2 under Win98. It works great with A3D games.
I have a spare Audigy 2 ZS, could I put this in too for better EAX support?

sure you could, just be careful of resource conflicts (Ive had that problem)

the bigger annoyance is getting the Audigy 2 ZS to work properly on Win98 , its not impossible, but it is a hassle.

I use hardware profiles for my 3 sound cards.

Profile 1: Vortex 2 - Yamaha and Audigy 2 disabled in device manager
Profile 2: Yamaha - Vortex 2 and Audigy 2 disabled in device manager
Profile 3: Audigy 2 - Vortex 2 and Yamaha disabled in device manager

Then I swap the a3d.dll based on the profile I select.

Win 11 - Intel i7-1360p - 32 GB - Intel Iris Xe - Sound BlasterX G5

Please elaborate 😀

by default the installation for the Audigy2 ZS installs the WDM drivers , which don't work as well as the more standard VxD drivers you tend to find on Win9x.

the VxD drivers are there but its a bit of a process to get them going.

an SBLive or Audigy1 won't have those issues.

OK! I managed to get this working fine, I think.
Resource conflicts weren't a problem, the Audigy 2 took IRQ 3 which was free as I only have one serial port.
However, when running CTZAP from the Audigy2 ZS disc, the install VxD option was greyed out.
Using the vanilla Audigy2 disc, the VxD option was available and installed fine. Tested EAX in Diablo 2, seems to work.

Interestingly, the main installer on both the Audigy2 and ZS discs say they can't find the Audigy2 hardware. Only running CTZAP directly works.
That means I have to install the applications individually from the CD, no big deal.

Now running Ti4200/V3k 2000/Aureal 2 and Audigy 2 in this Win98SE machine, all bases covered for Gfx and Sound!
