Hey,

I just received my Asus P5A board, revision 1.04 with bios 1011 beta 5 bios (latest).
As I understand from most users, this board would accept the AMD K6-III+ 400Mhz just fine (later board revs wont).
But when I install this CPU and put the vcore @ 2.0V with 100Mhz FSB and multiplier of 5,5x the machine wont do anything. No beep.
When I install back the AMD K6-2 450 Mhz it came with, set it at 2,4V with 4,5x, it boots just fine.

Any tips?

First of all I'm sorry in advance if I'm not getting something obvious here, but my tip is to run the CPU at 4x100 instead of 5.5x100. Unless that was just some typo 😉

Yeah, shall try that first I guess... It has been overvolted with that 2.0V setting already, so I thought for sure it will do 550 easy (it even says so on several fora and the seller on Ebay).
It is a pretty popular chip that should do 550 Mhz without a sweat.
Will try in a few mins and report back.

I would try to test it with a lower clockspeed, just as Konc have suggested.
When you want to overclock, then do it in small steps.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

Dont think so... Only thing I can think of, is the reseating that did the trick because I swapped it again with the K6-2.
But thanks for the help anyways 😀 will test stability now.
