What motherboard and chipset are you using and what are you gonna use it for?
The motherboard would be with socket 370 and the intel 815 chipset.
Cause the RAM limit of 512MB and the speed of a PIII, the best OS is Win98 (SE).

If you want great sounding midi wavetable synth and real OPL3 go for the DS-GX (YMF724) The ES1938 isn't bad either - not by a long shot - it just doesn't sound as nice as the XG - it's like comparing the Creative 128 PCI to the Yamaha YMF724 really.

Yes it does have a PC/PCI connector. This is the reason why i'm asking. Cause i was thinking to take a SB live for this mainboard and now i see the advantages of a PC/PCI connection...

Searching on early PCI cards, i've found nothing more with this SB-link connector.
Both the AW724 and Waveforce 192XG should have PC/PCI headers on board, so they're great options. I believe the AW724 also exposes the SPDIF output via an unpopulated TTL header. These are the two salient Yamaha options I've found in my not extensive research. The Solo-1 based card is also not a bad option, as I believe it uses ESFM rather than the FM emulation of AudioPCI and SB Live cards.

There's also the Aopen AW320 - crystal CS4614 based, and it has a SB-Link connector.
I hope the OPL emulation is better than the CS4235/4237 chipsets. 😜
