I have two rigs where I swap out the USB mouse and keyboard. One runs on win98SE and the other XP. Lately on the win98 rig I've been getting this PS/2 error upon boot up and the mouse/keyboard dead in the water. After a restart and scandisk it's ok. The boot up screen shows legacy USB active so can't pinpoint the issue. Maybe I need to turn the power supply on before plugging in the mouse/keyboard? I could just re-install the usb drivers but wanted to see if others have come across this first.

Win98 supports USB human interface devices out of the box, so they should work fine. Check BIOS to see if "assign IRQ for USB" is enabled.
