I can't seem to hear the differences between these two cards.
Is there any differences in these two cards, as to sound quality goes?

Yeah... I can't seem to hear the difference. The 2910 has lots of jumpers and the 2950 has no real jumpers.
This is the only difference I can seem to find.

2910 is non-PnP, 2950 is full-PnP.
Plug and Play = setting Address, IRQ, and DMA via software.
Non-PNP = settings via jumpers.

No difference in sound quality.
Both have the hanging note bug.
Both have clicking DMA bug.
The CT2910 has an YMF289 OPL3 so it is slightly preferable.

The CT29xx series is one of the least desirable SB16.
CT2230, CT2290, CT2770 are the ones to look for, at least they remove two of the three main problems.

As a personal suggestion, I would go straight for the Audician 32 Plus with the YMF71x chip, plenty on ebay.

Is there perhaps some guide somewhere as to which models are more desirable then other models?

Somewere there might be a guide of some sort.
I have heard that some people swear by the 1740.
Never really payed attention to why.

Clicking DMA bug? What exactly are that?

As for the Audician32. Bought one the other day.
I just happened to have a 2910 and a 2950 in my collection.
I think they are all right, and sounds good enough for my taste.
They are a bit scratchy in the treble, yet the bass is good.
Middletone is good enough too. There are just this slight vibration
to the treble. It is not 100% clean. Most noticeable playing FM.

The worst Creative that I have ever had my hands on, were the 2770.
I could hear noise whenever the HDD was handeling data.
This however, I do not hear on the 2910 and 2950.

I'm fine with the Noise Blaster. 😀
No stress, just works.

For quality, just add a PAS16 or EWS64XL.

Had time to play some games with these two cards.
Still not shure if Audician is a better choice for native SB16 games that have option for SB-Pro, on a P-133.
The only game I really had a bad experience with, wich just happens to be a SB-Pro game, are Syndicate.
The only game that makes wierd noise in Adlib are Indy500, wich I think is the P-133 being too fast.
Most pleased with these two cards anyway. So I guess they are useable, and non-PNP/PNP being the
only real difference with these two cards.

Depends... To me at least. I like putting an AWE64 in a Pentium one or two.
Just not when I need to game something that uses OPL/Adlib for music.
Or when I get that feeling of gaming Doom-1/2 on Adlib.

Nah, seriously, I like the EMU 8k chip a tiny bit, since it feels like an oversized OPL4. 😉
The EMU chip is nice for playing Amiga MOD files in hardware. Impulse Tracker and A M P f o r W i n d o w s do support that chip.
It also sounds nice in several old games like Descent and MegaMan X. Just don't like that PnP and driver chaos so much.. 😉
That's why I got myself a Goldfish card, errr, I meant Goldfinch Card. Haven't done much myself with MT32 emulation, though.
It seems okay for games that use the default instruments. Phil also has tested that AWE64 card and explained it well in one episode..

No OPL3... No Wavetable...
You gotta' be kidding, it ain't a DOS card... why not just go straight for a PCI card with a gigantic TSR for crooked software emulation of everything?
😎 🤣

You can always add a Yanaha card for OPL3... And a Vortex2 for A3D and wavetable... and a GUS for those games that support it... and... what do you need the AWE for again? 😁

I/O, I/O,
It's off to disk I go,
With a bit and a byte
And a read and a write,

See? I predicted exactly the source of the rotten tomatoes. 😵

It's a bug-free SB16 that just works, that's why. Real OPL3 is a huge deal to some, but mostly because they feel that they want it to be a huge deal. Otherwise it's a pretty minor thing.

Wavetable, IMO, is a bigger deal, if you want to experience limitless general MIDI, but many games support the AWE natively, with no need for extra hardware. And you do still have the joystick port option for MPU-401.

Because they don't just work. They have a hoard of compatibility issues, down to flat out not working. An AWE64, though, always works, and requires no TSRs. And you know that! 😜

Well, fans of OPL3/Wavetable can always hunt for an AWE32 that has both of these, but dang! It also comes with a buggy MPU-401. 😠

I was obviously joking because I thought you were.
The AWE64 is very good for what it does.

Of course it would be nice to have it all in one card, but we already know there is no such thing.

SB16 (no hanging bug) + Goldfinch + Dreamblaster-S1/X1 perhaps?
