That's probably the Fury MAXX causing those stutters.

Now that that's out of the way...

768MB is, in all likelihood, overkill. The Asus P5A rev 1.04 should be fully compatible with the K6-III+ CPU, so there should be no requirement to mod it. See the quote below for more details. The Rage Fury MAXX does suffer from some issues due to the way in which the dual GPUs are implemented. When are you experiencing the stuttering?

I get stuttering both with winme and lubuntu while hovering the mouse around desktop.During the weekend i will make a fresh installation of win me win 98se and lubuntu 586 on a new scsi hd and report back witha video.
