I want to build the ultimate AMD computer for my Voodoo-3

Socket 462 , 1ghz Athlon ?
or
Socket A Athlon XP 3000+ ?
or
AMD Sempron ?

Graphics - Voodoo-3 AGP
Memory - 2gb. ram ? PC-2700
Audio - SB live 5.1 PCI

My questions are

What power supply ? Wattage and Brand ?
What Motherboard ? Brand and model ? Bios ? ( Considering: Asus A7V8X-LA )
What OS ? ( Win98, ME, 2000 )
Can I play old games with this computer ?

Any modern psu will do provided that you use the board pictured or another one similar that has the 12v plug for the cpu rather than the much more common 5v boards. Will this be the ultimate Athlon XP not even close but it will be more than good enough for a V3. The only trouble you are likely to have is getting a decent cpu cooler.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

KT333 chipset only.

I guess it'll restrict the range of PSUs too, they'll need a bit beefier 5V line. Older boards with an older chipset won't probably have the ATX12V connector, I presume.
But perhaps a Voodoo3 won't be that taxing (it's damn hot but is so with a miserable passive cooler) so many modern PSUs may be fine 😕
I've never done extensive testing, I just use an FSP Blue Storm II 400 which provides 30A of 5V.

Shame on us, doomed from the start

You are save, when using PSU's with 30A on the 5V rail.

Good VGA cards for your 1GHz Athlon are:
Geforce 2, 3 and 4 series.

For your 3000+, the 4 series and 5 series and 6 series are good to go.

Like the others have said: Your Asus A7V8X-LA has a 1.5A AGP slot, so a voodoo3 AGP card won't work, but the PCI variant is an alternative.
One more alternative is for example to use a powerful Geforce FX card with software like nglide...

The KT333CF is inappropriate as well, being a cut down KT400 chipset.

Looking for AMD mATX motherboard that supports Voodoo-3 AGP

First of all: Which boards do you actually have?

What you're trying to do has been done before, though these people tended to use a V5 instead of a V3. I'm not sure you'll get the most out of a V3 using a Barton.

I tend to agree with Melbar here, regarding the 30A on the 5v line.
And be sure to use a quality build PSU. And be sure to check the PSU as most PSUs that provide good amps on the 5v line, have aged quite substantially by now and may have developed bad caps, amongst other age-related issues.

I take it you know how to build a retro rig? I do suppose you have already done some of the basic research?

Besides VIA KT266A or KT333 there is another option for socket 462 - SiS 745. Performance is very similar and most if not all boards should be 3.3V AGP compatible.
