I had the pleasure of doing a data analysis on 4x unknown Travan tapes for my work last week...3 out of the 4 had broken internal belts (for those of you unfamiliar with Travan, belts are inside the tape!) And these where newer 20/40gb versions from 2003...
DAT/DDS in the little tapes and LTO in the big where always the best...
On the plus side tho i do get to keep the lovely new Certance/Seagate Travan Drive, that was used just for this...seeing as we have nothing at work with an IDE connector on it (even my recovery rig uses a IDE>SATA bridge), may be of some use if i grab some NOS tapes i guess.
Not related to that job, but on the subject of Tapes and backup libs, found this in my drawers last week. Seagate BackupExec, for NT, Netware, and OS/2 Server! Does anyone know if this is related to the later Synatec version?
