I pickup this entire computer the other day.
Everything appears to be working it just needs some TLC.
It's a AMD5x86 P75 CPU running at 133mhz.
I currently have it loaded with 64mb edo ram.
256kb cache.
American megatrends bios. really nice.
Trident graphics PCI
WD 540 Hard-drive
Sound blaster clone sound card. Just for now.

Can anyone identify this motherboard ?
Can I run this CPU at 175mhz ?

Your CPU is running at 4x 33 MHz.
It does support a clock multiplier of 3 and 4.

So, the only way is to overclock the FSB.
It should run with 4x 40 MHz (160 MHz - P90) if your board supports this clock frequency.
This CPU does not need much power. However, you need a cooler with fan.

But you may need to slow down the cache timing from 2-1-1-1 to something slower.
You also may need to slow down PCI clock from 33 MHz to 20 or a possible alternative.
You also may need to choose slower RAM timings.

Thanks, I need to find out the manufacture and model of this motherboard so I can look up the jumper settings.
There is no silk screen identifiers or jumper settings on this motherboard.

How does the turbo button work ?
If the computer runs at 133mhz in normal mode, what speed will it run at when turbo button is enabled ?

Can I run the CPU at 160mhz ?
Manual reads "AMD 5x86-133 needs the bios to be at least dated 1/1/96 (V1.2A) or 12/28/95 (V3.0A) to be supported. Set the processor as an enhanced AMD DX2 at 3.3V and 33MHz.".

How would you setup this computer for ultimate DOS 6.22 / Win3x / Win95 gaming ?
How much ram ?
How much cache ?
What graphics card ?
I have some sound blaster AWE64 cards.
I am using a 540mb WD hard-drive.
Should I leave it stock at 133mhz or over clock to 160mhz ?

Personally I would not run Win9X on this. The CPU seems a tad too weak but it should make a good DOS machine - especially for later DOS games such as Battlespire, Star Trek TNG Final Unity, CyberMage, Redneck Rampage, Quake, Tomb Raider, etc.

For the rest: I got a AWE64 in my P166 but personally, for a DOS PC I'd go with a classic SB16 myself because of OPL3 support.

For RAM: for anything DOS, 16MB is the max you should really need. More usually doesn't hurt but the rare game or program may have trouble with it.

For graphics: Trident was a pretty standard card back in the day so unless you run into issues with games, I'd just stick with it. How much memory does it have?

Retro game fanatic.

I am running pure MS-Dos 6.22 on my 5x86-133 machine. With the following spac's:

- Cirrus Logic CL-5446
- 16mb Ram
- Audician32 with a DreamblasterS1 daughterboard.

Any AWE cards can happily go into that machine you have. Or any other wavetable/midi solution.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

Yes, the Sound Blaster Vibra 16s has Yamaha OPL 262 onboard.

It is not a turbo button. I've never tried to change this while the board was powered on.

Basically there are different jumper routing layouts to the CPU socket's pinout. So you need the processor manual and a multimeter to check this out.
For example, Am486DX4-NV8T and Am486DX4-SV8B use different pinouts - first one uses an Am486DX2 = i486DX2 core and has write through L1 only (without CPUID instruction) - second one uses an AMD clear room design and introduces a jumper to switch L1 from write through to write back (introduces a CPUID instruction). On an AmDX4 the mentioned jumper switches from 3x to 2x clock multiplier.

Consider the manual and use a multimeter.

It is probably undocumented in your manual. But you cannot conclude that it does not exist.
I'm sorry.

Okay, I am making progress on this restore. I put in a NEW battery and set the jumpers to 4x40mhz so I am now running at 160mhz just fine.
Now I just need to configure this LED indicator.
I want it to read 160 at normal speed and LO or 30 when turbo button is enabled.
Does anyone know how to set these jumpers ?
On one side the PCB reads "5v and G" is this where power is connected ?
If so where on the motherboard can I get 5v ?
On the other side where the Turbo switch connects the PCB reads "L,C,H" this is where the turbo switch was connected but My motherboard turbo switch only has 2 pin connection where the wire has 3 wires "Blue, Black, White" Which two wires will make the turbo switch work ?
Currently the LED indicator does not light up.

this has been covered quiet a bit but you can get 5v from the molex connector, you need to splice a 5v cable and the ground cable to the 5v and the G on the turbo led, just don't splice the 12v from the molex

the 3 cables don't matter its either turbo on with button depresed or the other way around, the middle pin will always be connected to the header

the combination on to make the digits appear is different on different led versions so you have to figure it out yourself, it's quiet easy with the led connected just play around with the jumpers. Took me about 10 minutes to set mine up for 160/30

lch 3 pins will connect directly to the turbo button 3 pins on 1 side of the turbo button and the other side go the 3 pins from the motherboard

so when button is activated 1 side sends signal to led saying change display state then other side of the button sends signal to motherboard to change turbo state

But my motherboard only has a 2 pin connection for the turbo switch.
Where the turbo switch wire has 3 wires.

yeah 2 pins means closing the circuit

3 pins is closing the circuit 2 ways pin 1+2 or pin 2+3 for those motherboards that support choosing turbo on = button press turbo on =button depress

whatever way you connect the 3 pin cable to the 2 pin header on your motherboard ground being in the middle it will be pin 1 or pin 2 so pressing the button in one of the combinations will close the circuit in your motherboard

to sum it up connect it with 1 pin hanging off to the side

Okay thanks, Got it working. I put everything back to original settings so I am back to 133mhz.
I don’t see much of a performance gain from going with 160mhz.
Also I like 133 numbers better on my LED display.
I am going to add a Sound blaster live 5,1 card with drive for audio.
And maybe replace the Video with an S3 trio 64.
