hello.

i have 486sv2gx4 2.0 with 486dx4
i would like to upgrade it with amd 5x86.

i have several problems. first, i have no clue what bios i have right now. i cant find it anywhere in the bios menu. its just not there.
i tried hardware info program but i get low memory fatal error.

so first, how can i check my bios version on this machine?

and how to flash the bios. is it even possible without specialized hardware?

thanks for any help.
cheers

Check: look at POST, at the least there should be a string along the bottom of the screen. Usually also a version message at the top. If this flashes past too fast to read, press Pause/Break.

Flash: depends whether it's an EPROM or an EEPROM. If it's an EEPROM (unlikely given age) you can flash it via software. If it's an EPROM, it can only be flashed once and you need to flash a new one in a flasher (or via hotflashing in a motherboard).
