I was going through my parts box and looked closely on a old broken doner video card and it hit me to have a look at the bios, its a eprom by size and quick specs it seems to be a compatible replacement for a 486 512 bios, I have a board with suspected corrupt bios and never had a eprom to test with. anyway the old eeprom (486 bios) is
m27c512-15xfi

the eprom I pulled from the video card is
ht27c512-70

can I flash the bios for the 486 and use the ht27c512 instead of the m27c512?

my research from google says yes, but second option is very appreciated

The HT27C512 is a OTP device which stands for "One Time Programmable" so you cannot erase it and write other data to it.

Search for SST27SF512 on ebay. I can see pair for $2.2 including shipping. These are electrically erasable and programmable parts.
I've bought and successfully programmed SST27SF256 for my S3 Virge (VBE 2.0 compatible BIOS).

thanks for the info yeah I think ill get a few 😀

I forgot to ask. Do you have access to eprom/flash programmer ? Check if this eeprom is on the list of supported devices.
My programmer is TL866A (now discontinued) but there is newer version - TL866II plus which supports even wider range of devices.
