While IDE (=consumer grade drives) started in 1991 with 40MB, they were far away from being state of the art.
I'd love to find a 1989 CDC/Imprimis WrenRunner 5.25" FH SCSI drive, 330MB, 5400 RPM and very fast access times again - it was the fastest HDD 30 years ago. (It was so fast that MFM/RLL drives almost felt like floppies in comparison)
15k Seagate Cheetahs are almost inaudible compared to the roar and clicking that monster made.

1956 IBM 350 5MB, 50 24.5" platters, 600ms avg access time
1961 Bryant Computer Products 4000 series, 205MB, 30 39" platters, 50-205ms access time.

The latter unit had to be bolted onto cement floor to avoid itself dislodging while operation.

Why has my Zenith 286 Z286LP Plus got IDE on the mobo which was constructed and sold in 1990? It was sold with a 40meg drive and a Zenith MS Dos 4.01 and Windows 3.0. Also my 286 I bought new in 1990 had a 40meg IDE hdd on which I used Compaq MS Dos 3.31 until I got DR Dos 6.0. Compaq had IDE drives in their systems from 1986. Even produced there own variation of MS Dos called 3.31 in 1987 to cater for 40mg IDE drives. Getting over the 32meg partitioning barrier in 3.3.

There's a glitch in the matrix.

Apparently 32-bit is dead and nobody likes P4s.
Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉

With my ultra high speed fibre connection, I could fill that in 2 months 😀

Family PC in 1995 had 800MB (100MHz)
Family PC in 1999 had 12GB (P2 400MHz)
Family PC in 2003 had 80GB (Athlon 2GHz)
My own PC in 2008 had 250 (I put more money towards the graphics card... An 8600GT. Clearly a wise decision!)
My own PC in 2011 had 500GB plus that 250GB above
My own PC in 2015 had 750GB SSD plus the 500GB above
My own PC in 2020 had 1TB and 512GB both m.2 stick NAND things.

I love m.2 drives. No cables!

I remember the buzz over Western Digital's 200GB 'Drivezilla' 20 years ago.

At the time I had a grand total of 30GB in my computer (10+20) and was astounded by this. Who would ever need so much space?

Is this too much voodoo?
