I just got a vx97 board, everything works but the serial ports, i try to connect a mouse but nothing works, tried either serial port on the board, still nothing. i don't know if there's a faulty part on the board or something, i'm scratching my head trying to figure out the issue. also changed the irqs and disabled the parallel port, no dice, i don't know if the board is defective, if it is, i'll have to get a refund from the ebay seller.

Did you check if your board need sequential or staggered com port to be attached? And then did you try the correct one?

i just found a random serial header in my parts stash, it came with a Sony Vaio PCV-120's Intel Agate 430HX board, it also didn't work on the Agate 430HX itself. and also didn't work on my Windows 10 machine when i tried bootstrapping ADTPro on my Apple IIe as a test. That ASUS VX97 is my first Baby AT board that i got, the rest that i have is ATX. I hope i didn't fry the serial controller or whatever it is when i attempted to test a serial mouse on it. I have connected it in backwards a couple times. I guess search eBay or Amazon for "RS232 Bracket" s-l1600.jpg or go to my local thrift store and find one.

The question still stays - the one you tried, is it staggered or sequential? And do you have the other one to try out? Or if not, maybe you could solder over one version into another version...

i'm new to Baby AT boards and i don't know what Staggered/Sequential is. I have been with atx, and later i felt like trying out Baby AT with a ASUS VX97 that i got for a not bad price. I have connected the serial port in wrong (red side up) a few times, will that fry the serial controller? if it did, time to scour ebay for another 430VX AT board.

I have VX97 complete with all original cables and brackets.
Here's how it should be connected… DB9 for now… I can check DB25 too if needed…

finally got serial working, but now i can't get PS/2 working. i have a couple U shaped 5 pin [:..:] ones which that board has and both don't do anything. i also have straight 5 pin ones too.

Finally got PS/2 working, found a 2x4 connector and wedged a tack under the tabs and rearranged them to the correct pinout and got it working.
