Has anyone replaced tantalum caps on old motherboards with common electrolytic capacitors?
I have a 486 motherboard full of 16v 10uf tantalum baloon type caps, and im wondering if electrolytic is safer to have.

You can do it, use as low esr as possible. 16v 10uf tantalums are extremely common on motherboards from the IBM 5150 up to 486's getting a lot less common from Pentium and on.

I've been replacing those with low esr polymer capacitors with very good results.
