Hi all,
yesterday I found my old Aptiva 2144-743 (Italian market) in my parents' house, it was in a box, with the Recovery disks.

I reconnected it and it seems to be working. It has correct date and time, RAM is correctly detect, floppy is working, the hard disk is gone 🙁

I have a DOM, 256MB (the Aptiva was born with 170MB hard disk), on which I restored the original software, but after the boot I see the prompt blinking and everything freezes.

I have some quesitons for you:
1. do you think that the DOM - connected directly to the IDE connector on motherboard - could have some issues to allow the OS to start?
2. do you think that with a CF-to-IDE adapter and a CF with 8GB it should work better?
3. where can I find the last BIOS released for this machine? When I used it (from 1994 to 1999) I was not so trained on keeping update PCs

Thank to all for all the answers! 😀

I do not know about your DOM or if a CF to IDE will work.
This page talks about the last BIOS for Aptiva 2144 and 2168: http://ps-2.kev009.com/pcpartnerinfo/ctstips/f47a.htm
and if you look for odyflash you can download the text and bios here (scroll down and get odyflash.exe and odyflash.txt)

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
