I'm trying to get this card (Tiara lancard/e AT 10bt) to work together with windows 3.11 for workgroups and the only disk i have for it is the "megadiskette" which seem to have things for lan manager, etc on it but not really the card drivers themself. Would anyone here know where (if at all possible) to get drivers suitable for either msdos or WFW3.11?

If it has the drivers neccessary for DOS LanManager and is called the MegaDiskette, then I am going ahead and bet that the neccessary drivers for the Win3.1 NetStart and DOS itself are also on disk.

Care to show the whole disk contents?

Moreoften than not, the Win3.1 drivers are located somewhere in subdirs, or you are supposed to use one of the DOS drivers instead - i.e. IBM 40 LAN Manager, etc...), which doesn't become clear without digging through the documentations...

The disk dates from October 1991, and as expected, there are no Win3.1 drivers on it. You will have to go the alternate route by using the (NDIS) DOS + packet driver + mTCP + Winsock as described here ( this will enable Win3.1 to communicate with the NIC by using its DOS driver...: )

I found the easiest way to enable networking under Win 3.1.x was to install a packet driver for the NIC under DOS, and use mTCP under DOS to enable TCP/IP support. After that, to enabled connectivity for Windows 3.1x (since you now already have a working ethernet adapter and a matching packet driver), install TRUMPET Winsock, then add WINPKT.COM following the packet driver in AUTOEXEC.BAT. This is what is called adding a 'shim' between Windows and DOS which essentially allows Windows to communicate with the ethernet adapter through DOS. In Windows 3.1.x you then simply add TCPMAN.EXE to your Startup group, run Setup on TCPMAN then reboot - and voila - you get full Windows 3.1.x internet connectivity without ever needing all of the overhead of Windows 3.11 networking and you get dual internet connectivity under both DOS and Win 3.x a the same time, which isn't possible using only the WFW networking support.

Mike"

Problem is, there doesnt seem to be a packet driver available on the floppy, either. So you may be limited to DOS only.

You may find a working packet driver for the Lancard/E series amongst the "Crynwr Packet Driver Collection". I have spotted a TIARA.COM file amongst the packet drivers in there, I think it's for the correct series.

That is highly interesting stuff jaZz 😀

Thx to internet archive, i could actually get at the file that i 'think' is the one (Tiara.com) inside of the "many-other-drivers.zip" archive here: https://web.archive.org/web/20060216135938/ht … wr.com/drivers/

Having it available via DOS is fine by me (but bonus if it also works on W311 of course). I'll test it and write back how it went 😀

thx
