I've found this site: http://www.geocities.ws/tuacubx/ - where you can find modified BIOS for Tualatin with included "latest Promise ATA100 controller BIOS(v 2.20.14)".

This wonders me - weird that Promise BIOS is located along with MB BIOS - I have two Promise PSI ATA controllers and I remember flashing BIOS to the lates version on those (which actually solved some crashing / slowdown problems). Could this be that loading modded BIOS will also update Promise BIOS - and if so - can it be reverted in case of problems (basically if I flash original BIOS would it revert)?

AWBE in combination with an EEPROM programmer (trusty ol 866 or variants).
Allows for some experimentation without the risk of bricking the MB.
If you actually can inject another version of promise BIOS into the MB BIOS im not sure, well you can for sure but getting it to work is the questionmark here =)
I have combined different versions of BIOS'es for the same MB with working results.

I'm sure there are experts on this lurking on the forum!

I'm no pro but here's my opinion:
As far as I can tell there is no dedicated EEPROM for the PATA controller so it's all stored in the same EEPROM.
Also if the BIOS image is a single file it'll all be written at once if you use a program like UniFlash.
That means reflashing an older BIOS image to the EEPROM reprograms the whole EEPROM and will also reprogram the PATA portion of the BIOS on the EEPROM.

I think I'm going to give it a try. But later - I'll use latest official for now.
