This Q6600 I have that is running at 2.6HGz is running a bit hot a idle at first I thought it was the heat sink so I replaced it with a copper core Intel type but not the low profile kind the taller one, at idle in XP using Core Temp 1.12.1 it is at 45 degrees idle and a quick boot into the bios it has 58 degrees. I even used Noctua thermal paste.
CPU stepping? You can use CPU-Z to identify your stepping. If it's B3, that's how it should be. Although, you probably also disabled power saving features.
I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
If it's really a B3 stepping Q6600 cpu then it's quite normal. The B3 stepping was introduced in January 2007 and the G0 stepping in July 2007.
